The Role

Fidelity’s Enterprise Infrastructure Distributed Compute and Storage Team is looking for an Infrastructure Solutions Engineer. This position is responsible for providing consultation on compute migration projects, including the building of physical and virtual Linux and Windows servers, as well as Hypervisor and Virtual Appliance servers. It also involves project management responsibilities within the TLM framework for decommissioning both physical and virtual servers. The role requires the ability to investigate and solve issues related to compute migrations and server builds, and to collaborate effectively with the Operations, Engineering, and Automation teams to resolve these issues.

Distributed Compute & Storage is part of Enterprise Infrastructure & Operations (EI&O). We are responsible for delivering highly secure, stable, cost effective and performant compute and storage solutions to Fidelity’s application and database teams, enabling them to deliver premier financial solutions to our customers. We are a global team, operating across three major locations in the US and two cities in India.

The Expertise and Skills we’re Looking For

  • 10+ years’ experience in IT across a broad range of technologies, with 3-5 years specific experience in working in project management, consultation on compute migration and infrastructure builds and Technology Life Cycle Management

To perform this job, an individual must meet the following criteria:

  • Project management skills on server migration projects
  • Strong technology lifecycle management skill on compute infrastructure
  • Knowledge of the operating systems and hypervisors
  • Understanding of hardware component concepts - storage, load balancing, firewalls, server class hardware, and clustering solutions.
  • Understanding of basic networking principles (Bonding/VLAN/Routing)
  • Firm grasp of Virtualization technologies
  • Understanding of architectural concepts and design requirements for cloud-based systems
  • Understand the BU application/technology environment, platform technologies (server, network, storage, database and middleware) and serve as a technology partner and dedicated single point of contact for given business units for infrastructure design activities
  • Serve as liaison with other EI/DH support teams (as needed) to ensure hosting model (traditional data center, co-lo or cloud) and target server specifications are complete, accurate and provide the optimal solution based on customer requirements
  • Author and review system specifications, as well as technical and non-technical support/operational documents.
  • Provide consulting services to internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge on Windows, AIX, and Linux systems, virtualization design, integration, and interoperability.
  • Review the final release candidate (base build) for conformance to specifications
  • Hardware platform design (identifies components, design OS layout, lead standardized infrastructure components, serviceability, and creating system solutions and frameworks)

  • Multi-functional Collaboration – Ability to work effectively with Operations, Engineering, and Automation teams.
  • Communication Skills – Concise and professional communication for technical and non-technical partners.
