Jefferson Community College, Watertown, New York, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, seeks a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of English to start in January 2026. The successful candidate will teach developmental English and composition courses that serve as crucial stepping stones to academic success. The preferred candidate will also bring expertise in public speaking and/or interpersonal communications to support our Humanities curriculum. Additionally, the ideal applicant would instruct our new student seminar course, which helps students build the habits· and skills needed for academic success, introduces them to JCC and its resources, encourages career exploration, and fosters community engagement.
Reporting to the Arts & Humanities Department within Liberal Arts, the position will teach gateway English courses and provide meaningful academic advising. Faculty are expected to advance the College's focus on student success and completion and will work closely with the College's leadership to advance the mission of the College's Strategic Plan.
Required: Master's degree with at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in English/ Literature, Composition/Rhetoric or related field. Must be available to begin teaching spring 2026.
Applicants must interact and communicate effectively with diverse populations, fosterinclusion,
and promote equal access and treatment for groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
Preferred: College teaching experience; graduate hours in Speech and/or Communications; demonstrated commitment to the discipline through professional activities; experience in online teaching modalities and adaptability to engage students across all platforms.
Advertised Salary: $47,589 - $52,347/yr. for well-qualified individuals. Salary is determined based upon experience and education in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement as well as internal equity.
