
Internal Communications Specialist, Senior
Job Summary:
The Senior Internal Communications Specialist will report to, and work closely with, the Director, PR & Community Engagement, to support the implementation of OnPoint Community Credit Union’s internal communications strategy. This role will focus on coordinating and delivering communication initiatives for internal stakeholders, such as Inclusion & Impact, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Learning & Development.
Candidates who will be most successful in this role are positive, motivated, and people-oriented. They stay apprised of what’s happening across the organization, helping generate excitement and pride as a brand and culture advocate by supporting communication needs for existing initiatives and serving as a change agent for organization-wide projects. They are adept at planning content, while having the ability to write with a quick turnaround time. They share new ideas for improving employee engagement. They are adept at finding ways to connect with and disseminate information to staff in various roles, including those who work remotely, with limited computer access, or at branch locations.
Essential Functions:
- Create and manage communication calendars for all identified stakeholders, proactively working with teams to manage and organize their internal communication needs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding their communication needs.
- Write and edit internal communications for internal stakeholders as requested to achieve outlined business objectives.
- Plan, curate, and create content for a variety of internal communications channels, including intranet, e-newsletter, video, and digital display monitors.
- Prepare a targeted, strategic communication plan for each stakeholder.
- Ensure communication strategy and content are consistent across the organization and with OnPoint’s brand by reflecting the organization’s vision.
- Collaborate with marketing, community relations, and leadership to refine core messaging, ensuring organizational consistency in all aspects of communication.
- Edit and revise content as necessary, ensuring consistent framing of messages using the OnPoint “voice”.
- Project manages internal communications requests.
- Evaluate communication effectiveness using metrics and provide data-driven recommendations for new ideas and improvements. Monitor communication plans to ensure objectives and goals are met and/or exceeded.
- Communicate organizational initiatives, projects, and changes to employees and identified stakeholders
- Ensure internal messages are consistent with external communications
- Ensure all communications reach different generations, diverse employees, and various levels of education
- Assist with other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- Follow OnPoint brand guidelines and standards to ensure quality and consistency.
- Deadline-driven with a keen ability to produce effective content within short turnaround times.
- Active versus passive writing style.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
- Passion for storytelling exemplifies OnPoint’s commitment to corporate leadership, particularly the core value of service.
- Adept at taking complicated topics and refining them for different audiences.
- Ability to solve and assess organizational needs.
- Ability to manage multiple communication plans/programs.
- Ability to work both individually and in a team setting.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field required, or additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
- Familiarity with AP and Chicago Style writing.
- 5-7 years of related experience in communications, marketing, or public relations required
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
- Project management experience
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in internal communications or human resources.
- Experience with e-newsletter software, Microsoft SharePoint, and Adobe Creative Suite.
