
International Student Advisor and Outreach Specialist
SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing a high level of customer service and detail while managing the admissions process and immigration support for the international student population of the campus, compliant with the Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP) and institutional policies, and consistent with the highest ethical standards. This positions develop opportunities for international students to transfer an I-20 and pursue education with South University by developing partnerships, participating in recruitment opportunities, and assisting with prospective international student’s successful matriculation through the admissions and immigration process. This position serves direct entry and transferring International students and will be expected to work outside of regular business hours to serve students with global time differences.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
- Execute a strategy to increase international enrollment through student transfers to South University.
- Identify new partners or market segments within the local/regional community to drive international student enrollment and transfer opportunities for F1 students.
- Participate in community events, such as transfer fairs, international student activities, or other opportunities to recruit international students.
- Ensure the maintenance of accurate documentation of outreach activities, agreements, inquiries and applicants.
- Provide admissions services including application processing, collection and submission of documents for Basis of Admission; ensure accepted students have timely access to letters of acceptance.
- Advise and counsel prospective international students concerning programs of study, admissions criteria of the University, cost, immigration, and other relevant topics, through the delivery of programs and activities in the local community, interviews, information sessions, e-mail, newsletters, and other means of communication.
- Nurture prospective students between application and the start of classes to meet or exceed enrollment goals.
- Provide forecasts and updates on enrollment metrics.
- Participate in orientation programs and services specific to adjusting to the American culture, integrating into the campus and local community, maintaining status, planned travel, CPT/OPT, and other programs or services that support international student success pre-arrival, post-arrival, and as an active student.
- Produce and update publications, forms, announcements and newsletters on a regular basis for prospective and currently enrolled students.
- Provide training for faculty and staff to better support the international student and understand multicultural traditions and issues.
- Provide training for Directors of University Partnerships to source international student transfer opportunities in their local communities
- Participate in educational and professional development activities provides by the University, SEVP, Field Representatives and external training opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three years’ experience in admissions, advising, community outreach or student support services, preferably in a post-secondary environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong interpersonal skills with student and faculty populations
- Exceptional customer service, student centered approach while acting with urgency to process student applicants in a timely manner
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Expertise with MS Office, software packages (student information systems and/or CRM systems), and systems for reporting features
- Work effectively as a team member to ensure department goals are met
- Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Understand multicultural and student development issues in post-secondary education
- Work independently, demonstrating strong time management
- Consistently work outside of regular business hours to accommodation global time differences
- Travel for trainings or off campus events
