Job Summary

The Department of Entomology in the University of Kentucky’s Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment is seeking a Laboratory Technician Senior to support research activities within an insect physiology and genetics laboratory. This position will play an integral role in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, with primary responsibilities including insect rearing, experimental setup and execution, data collection, and general laboratory maintenance.

About the Role
In addition to supporting research activities, the Laboratory Technician Senior will serve as the day-to-day operational lead for the laboratory, overseeing inventory management, ordering supplies, and helping ensure compliance with University and federal regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to take on meaningful laboratory leadership responsibilities while gaining valuable research experience in insect physiology and genetics. For those interested in pursuing an advanced degree, the successful candidate may also have the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in Entomology while working in the laboratory.

Previous laboratory experience, computer literacy, good organizational skills, and ability to work as part of a team are highly preferred. Previous experience working with insects (especially fly husbandry) and basic skills in experimental design and data collection are also a plus.
