The Opportunity:
Multnomah County’s Attorney’s Office is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant 1 to join our team. In this essential role, you'll provide critical administrative support that helps our lawyers and paralegals serve the county and its departments.
What You'll Do:
As a Legal Assistant, you will be the backbone of our office, handling a wide range of tasks that keep our legal work running smoothly. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Administrative Support:Manage office supplies, process invoices, handle new hire paperwork, and maintain essential office templates.
- Legal & Case Management: Assist lawyers and paralegals with e-filing court documents, organizing case files, and proofreading legal documents for accuracy.
- Discovery & Records: Help with e-discovery and public records requests, ensuring information is handled with care and precision.
- Reception & Communication:Serve as the first point of contact for the office, greeting visitors and answering phones. You'll also respond to inquiries from lawyers, witnesses, and the public.
- File Management:Take ownership of the office's filing system, including opening, maintaining, and archiving case files. You'll also process and route tort claim notices and incident files.
- General Office Tasks:Handle mail, faxes, and deliveries; manage office equipment; and assist with other general office duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
- Experience:One (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 0-1 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. - Experience in public sector municipal law.
- Experience working in a legal or professional office setting.

Type of position: This non-represented position is eligible for overtime.

Schedule:This position is approved as a hybrid schedule of working both remotely and in office. The designation of Hybrid Telework may be subject to change at a future time. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations.
