A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.Purpose of PositionReporting to the Research & Instruction Department Head as part of the Library's public services unit, the Research & Instruction Department. This position is responsible for using customer service skills to answer questions, troubleshoot, teach, and inform the UTEP community about the Library's resources, tools, and services in face-to-face settings; online via email and chat interactions; and remotely via phone call or remote meeting applications. The individual in this position will help supervise one student employee in the department. Contributes to LibGuide maintenance and the work of various teams or committees in the department as needed. This position also includes occasional night and weekend hours.Essential FunctionsMaintains an up-to-date, working knowledge of general and specialized Library and non-Library resources in order to answer simple to moderately difficult questions at the Access Services Desk; via phone, email, or SMS; or through the Library's chat service.Supervises departmental work-study student as needed.Conducts formal and informal networking and outreach to develop innovative approaches for the Library and its staff to address the needs of students.Collaborates with colleagues to plan and enact strategies to support the University's mission and student success framework in the Library building, and through its resources and services.Collaborates with colleagues to create tailored, practical, relevant information literacy class assignment, tutorials, and assessments.Participates in team and committee work to contribute to ongoing projects in the Research & Instruction Department.Participates in Library-wide activities.Orders/maintains supplies in the department.Provides support to professional staff working on special projects.Develop proficiency in the Alma library management system.Gain expertise in Springshare platform tools, including LibGuides and LibAnswers.Acquire comprehensive knowledge of all procedures within the Research & Instruction Department.Performs other duties germane to the position as required.Periodic evening and weekend work as required.Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.Complies with all State and University policies.Other duties may be assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
