Job Description

Job Specific Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of people using and visiting the University's Aquatics facilities, including the Malkin Athletic Center and Blodgett Pool, by maintaining constant and active surveillance of the pool. You will aid those in distress from an accident, injury or other emergency, including providing first aid and administering CPR as needed. You will be a team lead, guiding and teaching other lifeguards and monitors and helping to create an effective team environment. You will assist with maintenance projects. You will also act as a shift supervisor. You will be assigned to work a number of nights and weekends, and you must be willing to adjust your schedule to cover special Aquatics events such as swimming and diving championships.

Must be able to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and stand for an extended period of time.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.


Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Lifeguard experience is highly desirable, but we will seriously consider all people who have obtained their lifeguard certification, even if recently obtained.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must be able to use online scheduling system, which requires that you have a smart phone.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including a customer service orientation.
  • Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.

  • Standard Hours/Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, working (approx.) 35 hours per week. (Note—hours may vary based on departmental need)

Work Format Details

This position is based on-site at a Harvard campus location. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
