Job Description:
This role is for a Mainframe Hardware Support Technician in the Omaha Data Center. The Mainframe Hardware team is comprised of three Omaha engineers and three Raleigh engineers and one team manager. Our team operates within the Data Center and Colo Operations group, under Data Center and Network Services. We provide all major mainframe hardware support from installation and configurations to maintenance and technology refresh, utilizing vendor support teams. Our primary customers are groups within the Mainframe Hosting services teams such as the z/OS support team, mainframe storage team, and performance and capacity team.
The Expertise You Have and The Skills You Bring
High School Diploma / 2-4 Years of College in IT field.
2+ Years of Data Center experience.
2+ Years Mainframe hardware experience is preferred.
IBM Mainframe certifications preferred.
Broadcom certifications preferred.
You should have experience with the following mainframe hardware machines: z/Series processors, DS8000 storage machines, TS7700 virtual tape systems, FICON directors (Broadcom DCX series)
You should have experience using TSO/ISPF. You will use JCL to run batch jobs that help configure the mainframe. You will use HCD and CMT to build IODFs that run the mainframe hardware.
You will use command line interface as well as web-based tools to manage FICON switches. You will learn FOS for Broadcom switch management.
You should be proficient in basic MS Office tools, especially Excel and Outlook.
You need effective communications skills (Email, Chat, Zoom, and of course in person)
Supporting all mainframe hardware both locally in Omaha and remotely in Raleigh.
Assisting senior team members with project work.
Scheduling and managing all vendors such as IBM, Broadcom, cable teams, and others.
Configuring the mainframes for peak performance, in coordination with the capacity team.
Configuring the storage devices and switches for peak performance, in coordination with the storage team.
Processing change and incident tickets in ServiceNOW.
Responding to calls and problems both during on-call and during the day with the team.
Rotational on-call coverage with the other five team members each, weekly change on Mondays.
