The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The Compliance Risk Management team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective compliance risk management programs throughout the organization, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes.
The objective of Compliance Risk Management Governance team is to develop, oversee and strengthen the organization’s Compliance Risk Management framework to ensure that governance structures, policies, and procedures are robust, effective, and align with regulatory requirements and best practices. The Audit & Regulatory Engagement team will support the Compliance Risk Management internal and external exams and audits, ensure timely closure of findings, educate partners with an examiner and regulator mindset and streamline and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Compliance Risk exam management process.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work directly with the Head of the Compliance Risk Management Program to create a comprehensive program management framework that supports coordination and clear tracking among workstreams, key activities and milestones for the Compliance Risk Management Program team.
- Utilize the framework to establish a clear 3-year compliance plan and roadmap, with emphasis and urgency on year one milestones, in partnership with Compliance Transformation team.
- Collaborate and engage with Compliance Risk Management Program leadership team and key stakeholders, including GCE Executive Office on staffing priorities, operational expense management, and talent planning.
- Track progress against key program milestones and risks including creation of presentation views for executive review.
- Facilitate communication among GRC team and business partners ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Prepare materials for Head of Compliance Risk Management Program to communicate scope change, resourcing, and financial implications to senior management in a clear and timely manner.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for project success and monitor their achievement.
- Self-starter, maintain positive demeanor and “can do” attitude.
Qualification Requirements:
- Able to track progress within project plans to ensure various stakeholders understand tradeoffs and approval process.
- Project management acumen: attention to detail along with ability to keep the big picture in perspective, both proactive and adaptable, ready, and willing to handle challenges.
- Strong relationship leadership with a track record of positively collaborating, influencing, and extensively coordinating with internal and external partners, including senior leaders.
- Exceptional communication skills to synthesize key messages, prepare materials, and tailor appropriately for the audience. Ability to create decks and materials to communicate at senior levels concisely, clearly, and consistently.
- Superior writing skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple demands successfully within a matrixed organization.
- Team player comfortable working collaboratively to resolve challenges in a timely manner.
- Understanding of 3 lines of defense model.
- Track record of creating and leading strong cross-functional teams.
- Enjoys solving large and complicated problems.
- 5+ years of experience with significant project management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Management, or a related field.
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
