
Material Resource Director - GL
Job Synopsis
The MCC Great Lakes Material Resource Director provides direction & supervision for the programming, volunteers, warehouse upkeep and budget of the Goshen Material Resource Center (MRC) and oversight of Material Resource programming in the Great Lakes region. Programming includes processing of material resources to get ready for international shipment, recycling, involvement of volunteers, and providing educational opportunities. This role requires excellent communication and people skills, as the MR Director interacts with volunteers, thanks to donors, and represents MCC in a variety of speaking engagements. The MR Director supervises and gives direction to the regional MR team in Goshen, IN and Kidron, OH. The work week is generally Monday through Friday with some evening or weekend work and the hosting of groups. Travel includes off site location pickups and packing/knotting events, speaking, and attending annual Material Resource Network meetings.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelors Degree in organizational management, communication, or related degree.
- 3-5 years relevant experience in volunteer coordination, management, or non-profit work.
- Good organization, administration and leadership skills; ability to set vision and carry out strategic plans.
- Extensive experience working with volunteers of all ages and group sizes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people from a range of backgrounds, cultures, ages, and theologies.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with little supervision but also able to be accountable to larger organizational goals.
- Commitment to the mission of Mennonite Central Committee.
- CPR certified or willingness to be trained.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving record and eligible to be an MCC authorized driver as defined by policy, insurance, and legal requirements.
Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in organizational management, communication, or related degree.
- Five years’ experience in volunteer management and supervision.
- Spanish fluency.

Specific Tasks and Duties:

Volunteer Coordination and Donor/Church Engagement - 60%.
- Develop and coordinate donor/church engagement strategy in collaboration with Regional ED and Donor Relations
- Serve as primary contact for partner churches and community organizations, MCC constituents, including plain and ethnically/racially diverse groups.
- Recruit volunteers by contacting churches, schools and other groups; contact primarily by phone, email and personal contact.
- Encourage individuals and groups to donate material aid by disseminating information about current MCC needs and emergency drives through email, phone, and speaking engagements.
- Welcome, orient, train, and supervise individual volunteers and volunteer groups to bale comforters and process kits (school, hygiene, relief, infant care, sewing, Dignity, etc.) to meet MCC guidelines and packing for shipment.
- Ability to speak formally and informally about MCC's work to people with a range of theological, cultural, and political views and with all ages.
- Visit local MCC constituent churches to promote material resources and communicate MCC stories & information.
- Develop and coordinate various comforter knotting events with volunteer committees.
- Plan regular volunteer appreciation events.
- Maintain records of volunteer hours.
- Supervise volunteers in various other capacities such as transporting from MR drop-off sites.
- Manage the MR donation area.
- Conduct Depot facility tours as needed.
Leadership/Administration - 40%
- Supervise members of the Great Lakes MR team (MR Warehouse Manager, MR Assistant, and Kidron MR Coordinator).
- Serve on MCC GL Leadership Team.
- Shape and manage the MR portion of the MCC GL strategic plan, in consultation with the MCC GL Executive Director and MR staff.
- Supervise preparation of the annual budget and work plans for the MR team; monitor budgets and work plans.
- Prepare regular reports for GL regional office and MRC director in Akron as requested. Communicate and consult regularly with other MCC Great Lakes staff, including joining Program/Church Engagement and Communications/Donor Relations team meetings as requested.
- Attend MCC GL board meetings, staff meetings, staff retreats, and other events as requested by the Executive Director.
- Coordinate the material resources thank you process, including supervision of volunteers who enter data.
- Supervise volunteers and/or purchase items from designated material resource financial donations.
- Participate in the MR network calls and meetings.
- Coordinate with Meat Canning Committee and Depot staff to facilitate annual meat canning in MR space.
- Coordinate with Depot staff regarding jointly used space.
- Direct MR Warehouse Manager in organizing a clean and efficiently functioning workroom.
- Ensure that all safety rules are followed in MRC warehouse and workroom.
- Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.
Supervision: This position directly supervises 4 employees.
Travel expectations:
Travel up to 25% or 30 nights away per year within the U.S. or Canada
Travel to pick up MR from drop-off locations in the Great Lakes region; travel to remote kit packing and comforter events; travel to network meetings and staff retreats. Most travel within the GL region; occasional US or international travel. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Base salary: $67,368.93 - Starting salary may be adjusted up to $74,854.37 based on previous experience.Benefits
