Job Synopsis

The Volunteer Coordinator position is a half-time position in the Material Resources Center (MRC) in North Newton, KS. The MRC hosts a community of volunteers working together for world relief. Practicing and promoting faithful stewardship, care for God’s creation, and raising funds for MCC are key components of the mission. The primary role of the Volunteer Coordinator is to welcome, host, educate, assist, and supervise the daily volunteers as well as receive material resource donations in the warehouse and workroom.

Essential:

  • Over 3 months relevant experience MS Office suite, database entry, internet and e-mail management
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving record and eligible to be an MCC authorized driver as defined by policy, insurance, and legal requirements.


Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Key Responsibilities

Coordinating volunteer efforts: 90%, Administrative tasks: 10%

Specific Tasks and Duties:
Volunteer Tasks (90%)
  • Welcome, orient, train, and supervise individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • Create a welcoming presence, greet volunteers and donors who come to the MRC.
  • Receive material resource and recycling donations, which includes unloading and loading vehicles and trailers as needed.
  • Create, foster, and maintain positive relationships with volunteers.
  • Make coffee and prepare snacks for break for volunteer groups.
  • Clean up kitchen area after volunteer groups.
  • Orient new volunteers to tasks and arrangements for the day as well as the mission of MCC.
  • Host and supervise evening groups as needed.
  • Communicate with Workroom Supervisor about kit material inventory.
  • Collaborate with Workroom Supervisor for special events and groups as needed.
  • Prepare, clean and re-organize work area before and after volunteers.
  • Check and empty the 24-hour donation room on a daily basis.
  • Sort and organize donations as needed.
  • Assist with yearly volunteer appreciation event.
  • Encourage and supervise volunteer safety measures and guidelines.
  • Help promote the MRC and its need for volunteers, assisting in both finding new sources and volunteers and encouraging volunteer retention.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, yearly volunteer hours and records as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain volunteer emergency forms as well as accident report forms as directed by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.
Administrative Tasks (10%):
  • Manage informal volunteer appreciation efforts.
  • Work with Workroom Supervisor to coordinate donation input into DPO and printed thank you notes.
  • Organize and distribute domestic donations that cannot be included in kits.
  • Cultivate productive relationships within the Anabaptist community locally and globally.
  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.
  • Input volunteer hours into spreadsheet as directed by supervisor.

Supervision: No supervisory responsibilities.

Travel expectations: Minimal. Some staff travel may be required by supervisor (approximately 5-8 overnight activities/year).


Physical activity/demands:
  • Occasionally ascending or descending stairs/ladders or the like.
  • Occasionally remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  • Occasionally medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.

Salary Details

Base salary: $18.75. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $20.84 based on previous experience.

Benefits

Medical, dental and vision, 23 days paid vacation, sick time and 10 holidays/year. Life insurance provided, as well as long and short term disability coverage. The retirement plan, with MCC contribution of 7%, begins after six months of employment.
