Each UA position requires maintaining regular hours assigned at the start of the semester based on each UA’s schedule.
Job Summary
Undergraduate Assistants (UAs) will keep 6 regular hours of work per week tutoring in the Mathskeller. This will be divided into several shifts. The UA is expected to both help tutor courses as well as help operate the Mathskeller alongside TA’s. Additional hours are assigned during exam weeks and events. Some UAs may hold a 3-hour work week based on need.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
At the Mathskeller, we emphasize patience, intuition, collaboration, and the Socratic method. UAs are expected to engage with students as they enter and be willing to answer questions from a wide variety of lower-level mathematics courses. UAs who can answer problems while providing insight into the big picture of the class are preferred.

Preferred Education/Experience
Before working, UAs should have completed two semesters of Calculus or equivalent with grades of A or B. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required, and applicants must have Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status. Students who have previously worked with tutoring or math education are preferred.
