About the MEDscience Program:
HMS MEDscience’s mission is to inspire and empower a rising generation of STEM leaders. Our program immerses students in realistic and dynamic simulated medical emergencies that transform the way that students approach and solve problems. Our vision is that all students, regardless of background, education, or zip code, should have equal opportunities in education and the sciences. HMS MEDscience engages over 4,000 high school students (including nearly 1,200 Boston Public School students) through school-year and summer programs.
Job Description
The MEDscience Teacher role is a position for a who is eager to learn and teach high school students in our unique, student-centered pedagogy. In this role, the teacher will co-teach 3-4 classes per day and will have various administrative and technical responsibilities to support the organization (e.g., taking attendance, training volunteers, creating social media content around your classes, setting up clinical skill sessions). The teacher will be trained in MEDscience's immersive, student-centered pedagogy and must develop a clear understanding of MEDscience's curriculum and teaching method. MEDscience works with students from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels and the Teacher must be able to adapt to meet the interests and learning styles of students, while cultivating a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. This individual must be a team player who excels in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly interactive environment and who is looking to grow as a teacher and work with students from a wide variety of backgrounds. This position will directly support the work that advances the goals and vision of HMS MEDscience (http://hmsmedscience.org/mission).
This team member will work effectively within a culture inclusive of individuals across a wide range of backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations, and appreciate and leverage the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals. This role will focus primarily on MEDscience's clinical program, but may have the opportunity to teach other program areas (including laboratory science, forensic science, and biomedical engineering) over time. In addition to teaching, this position will take on a range of coordination/administration responsibilities. This includes coordinating HMS MEDscience’s volunteer program, which provides opportunities for medical professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, and scientists to share their knowledge and experience with students and support our teaching team.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to teach 3-4 sessions (75 minutes/session) each day.
- Requires assisting in set-up of simulation equipment and clinical skills training, which can include lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Three or more years of related experience. Education may count towards experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 1-2 years of teaching experience preferred.
- College-level understanding of biology and anatomy and physiology.
- Must be flexible and have strong project management skills to effectively handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
- Must have strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess sound judgement and know when to elevate issues to organization’s senior leadership.
- Experience in or open to training on the following lab techniques is preferred: ELISA, PCR, gel electrophoresis.
- Prior experience managing volunteers is a plus.
- Ability to teach in Spanish preferred.

- Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
