Job Summary
This position begins August 13, 2026.
Desk Clerks serve an important role in supporting the safety, security, and daily operations of residence halls within the Office of Residence Life at the University of Kentucky. Students in this position provide overnight front desk coverage in residential communities and serve as a visible presence within the building during late-night hours.
Typical shifts occur overnight, including 12:00 AM – 4:00 AM and 4:00 AM – 8:00 AM. Employees should be prepared to work a minimum of 12 overnight hours per week.
Desk Clerks are responsible for monitoring access to the residence hall, responding appropriately to safety and security concerns, assisting residents and guests, and helping maintain a welcoming and secure community environment. This position requires professionalism, strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to remain attentive during overnight shifts.
Essential Responsibilities
- Monitor residence hall access and support building safety and security procedures
- Enforce university and residence hall policies in a professional and consistent manner
- Provide customer service and assistance to residents, guests, and visitors
- Respond appropriately to concerns, incidents, and emergency situations within established protocols
- Maintain an active and attentive presence at the residence hall front desk during assigned shifts
- Support a respectful and community-oriented residential environment
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and departmental communications
This position is also Federal Work-Study eligible, if you qualify.

This position requires the ability to communicate departmental and university policies clearly and professionally to residents and visitors. Desk Clerks must be comfortable addressing policy concerns, documenting incidents accurately, and communicating important information to professional and student staff members.

(2) Have previous experience with on campus living
(4) Students should be prepared to work at least 12 night-time hours per week
(5) Be in good conduct standing with the university
(6) Returning students must have at least a 2.0 Cumulative GPA
