JOB SUMMARY:

The Nonprofit Relationship Officer supports the credit union’s mission by developing and managing relationships with nonprofit organizations, community partners, and mission-driven members. This role blends relationship management, business development, and treasury management consultative support, serving as a trusted partner who identifies organizational needs and aligns them with deposit, cash management, and payment solutions.

Working closely with internal partners and nonprofit stakeholders, this position manages a portfolio of relationships, deepens member engagement, leads treasury management conversations, supports implementation of services, and contributes to the growth, retention, and overall financial wellness of nonprofit members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, manage, and deepen relationships with nonprofit organizations, community-based partners, and mission-driven members through community involvement, networking, education, consultative service, and ongoing portfolio management.
  • Serve as a primary relationship contact for assigned nonprofit members, providing responsive support and identifying opportunities to expand deposit and treasury management services.
  • Provide tailored deposit, treasury management, and related financial solutions to prospective nonprofit members based on their banking needs.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of nonprofit relationships, with accountability for retention, relationship expansion, and service quality.
  • Lead business development activities by researching prospective nonprofit members,
  • building outreach strategies, conducting discovery conversations, and maintaining accurate relationship activity tracking.
  • Coordinate onboarding and implementation for new nonprofit relationships and treasury management services with the Business Deposit Services team, helping to ensure a smooth transition, strong adoption, and a positive member experience.
  • Partner with Treasury Management, Commercial Lending, Small Business, Retail, Operations, and Community Impact teams to deliver coordinated solutions and high-quality relationship support.
  • Represent the credit union in civic and community functions to strengthen partnerships, generate new opportunities, and reinforce organizational values within the nonprofit sector.
  • Build trusted partnerships with nonprofit networks, community organizations, and mission-aligned institutions to support outreach, education, and relationship growth.
  • Provide internal partners with insights on nonprofit member needs, treasury management trends, and relationship opportunities to support ongoing service and product development.
  • Support special projects, strategic initiatives, and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Working knowledge of relationship banking, treasury management services, nonprofit organizations, and consultative business development.
  • Ability to identify member needs and align treasury management, deposit, and related banking solutions to organizational goals and operating requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and maintain effective working relationships with members, community partners, and cross-functional internal stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to conduct discovery conversations and present recommendations clearly.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, implementations, and follow-up commitments.
  • Knowledge of cash management concepts, payment processes, account analysis, and operational practices relevant to nonprofit and business banking relationships.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work with increasing independence in a relationship-based role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using CRM, relationship management, or treasury management support systems.

MIN QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, nonprofit management, public administration, finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years of experience in relationship management, nonprofit banking, treasury management, business development, financial services, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Experience managing client or member relationships, supporting business development goals, and/or coordinating implementation or servicing of deposit and treasury-related solutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience working directly with nonprofit organizations, associations, schools, foundations, or community-based institutions.
  • Experience in a credit union, bank, CDFI, or other mission-driven financial institution serving nonprofit or commercial clients.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit operations, fundraising environments, community development priorities, and the treasury management needs of mission-based organizations.
