As a part-time SCAD Language Studio professor, you will participate in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program. The program equips students with the confidence and skills needed to pursue academic programs at SCAD through traditional teaching methods and one-on-one tutoring. You will prepare talented students for creative careers in a professional, positive, and engaging classroom environment, enabling them to complete academic papers and formal presentations. As part of the SCAD Language Studio, you will help students understand U.S. culture and develop their speaking, reading, and listening comprehension.

In this position, your responsibilities will include modeling leadership and fulfilling teaching assignments as outlined by the contact hours specified in the Employment Agreement, which include syllabus design, submission, and approval; midterm grade reviews; and availability for office hours, extra help sessions, learning opportunities, and field trips. Additionally, you will conduct course and program assessments, meet grading and academic documentation requirements, and record attendance for each class per academic policies and regulations. This position requires compliance with all university policies.  

In this role, you will support academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts by contributing to the university’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. Attendance at on-ground and virtual activities such as admission events, faculty councils, exhibitions, and other initiatives is required. You may also participate in curriculum assessment and development meetings, accreditation support, institutional effectiveness meetings, or other publicity assignments.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, foreign language education, or language arts with ESL endorsements
  • At least two years of related experience and training or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of a second language and culture
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level
