Physical Requirements

This position requires intermittently sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); and occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Also involves some exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; and exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, cuts/punctures, and blood-borne or airborne pathogens.

Shift

Primarily Monday through Friday (7am-3:30pm); Includes every 6th weekend, ~2 annual holidays per departmental need.

Job Summary

Golisano Children’s at UK (formerly Kentucky Children’s Hospital) – Provides Pharmaceutical Care to pediatric and obstetric patients in an inpatient hospital and infusion care center settings. Contacts and confers with physicians and other practitioners to optimize drug therapy. Includes active participation on patient care rounds, medication reconciliation, patient education, review of patient profiles, therapeutic drug monitoring, utilizing pharmacist authority, responding to pediatric emergencies, etc. Precepts PGY-2 pediatric specialty residents, PGY-1 pharmacy practice residents, and student pharmacists. Reviews, interprets, and verifies written and electronic orders to ensure appropriate drug therapy has been prescribed for admitted patients. Provides direction and supervision of technical staff and pharmacy interns, and confirms the quality and accuracy of dispensed products. Maintains inventory and records of narcotics and other forms of drugs.

Strong clinical skills; knowledge of inpatient drug distribution and dispensing; ability to prioritize; excellent communication skills; team mentality; desire to teach; and motivation are required to excel in this position.

Preferred Education/Experience

PharmD degree preferred. ASHP PGY1 residency and/or PGY2 specialty residency preferred.
