Job Summary
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery within the Department of Surgery.
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is seeking a visionary leader with a proven record of achievement in academic medicine and substantial administrative experience, ideally as a Division Chief or Program Director. The successful candidate will exhibit strong leadership qualities—serving as a thoughtful listener, decisive leader, and principled advocate for both the Division and its faculty. A commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and academic excellence is essential. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate exceptional accomplishments as both a surgeon and scholar, as the role includes maintaining an active and robust clinical practice.
The primary criteria for appointment as Chief include a demonstrated ability to provide outstanding patient care while educating and mentoring the next generation of leaders in plastic surgery. The ideal candidate will also have a strong track record of advancing the field through innovative research and meaningful scholarly contributions.
The ideal candidate will have experience leading collaborative initiatives and possess the personal presence and interpersonal skills needed to build trust among colleagues, institutional partners, and the broader university community. The Chief must demonstrate impeccable integrity and be a confident, effective communicator capable of fostering a culture of transparency, respect, and shared purpose.
The Division of Plastic Surgery is comprised of six faculty members, five advanced practice providers (APPs), and a dedicated team of support staff. It oversees a six-year Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Program that matches two residents annually, as well as an ACGME-accredited Hand Surgery Fellowship, which accepts one fellow each year.
Candidates must hold the academic rank of Professor or Associate Professor and possess an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree, with a sustained record of scholarly activity. They should have national recognition, demonstrated by active involvement in academic and professional societies at the national level. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership experience in administrative roles within a medical school or academic medical center. A strong track record of recruiting and retaining high-caliber faculty and staff, as well as a demonstrated commitment to mentorship, is essential. Board certification in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) is required, and candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Interested applicants should submit their curriculum vitae and a letter of interest to caitlyn.joblon@uky.edu. All applications will be handled with strict confidentiality and in a security-sensitive manner. Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue until the position is filled.
