Required Education

PhD degree in Veterinary Science, Equine Science, or Biological Sciences.

Required Related Experience

In-depth understanding of equine reproductive and/or endometrial physiology. Practical skills in extracellular vesicle biology, molecular biology and/or cell culture. Scientific writing experience.

Physical Requirements

Work in the laboratory may require long periods of standing or sitting. The successful applicant will also be required to work with horses during sample collection.

Shift

Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, but may vary depending on experiments.

Job Summary

The scholar will conduct research on embryo-maternal communication as directed by their mentor. In addition, the scholar may participate in the training of graduate students in various lab techniques and procedures.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

An initial 12-month postdoctoral scholar position is available at the Gluck Equine Research Center, University of Kentucky, under the supervision of Dr. Tom Stout. The successful applicant will engage in research into early development of horse embryos, concentrating on origins of developmental failure (e.g. errors of cell division, embryonic genome activation and cell lineage segregation). Opportunities to combine applied research with cutting edge molecular biology using genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and advanced microscopic techniques will be offered. There is potential for an additional 1–2 year extension to this position.

Preferred qualifications include enthusiasm, professionalism, excellent communication and soft skills. The successful candidate will have a strong academic record, and a desire to work at the interface of embryology and bioinformatics. Candidates must have a PhD degree in Veterinary Science, Equine Science, Animal Science or Biological Sciences.
