Shift
Tutoring sessions will take place at Presentation U: Speaking and Writing Center, located in The Hub of W.T. Young Library, during regular tutoring hours (Mon.-Thurs. 2pm-8pm). On average, peer tutors are scheduled for 8-12 hours of tutoring per week with shifts being 3-4 hrs in length.
Job Summary
Embedded Tutoring supports CIS 110 and CIS 111 in two key roles:
- Peer Tutoring – Provide free, multi‑modal academic support through meaningful verbal, written, visual, and digital expression. Assist students with assignments such as essays, lab reports, presentations, and TED‑style talks, helping them develop clarity and confidence across formats. Peer tutoring sessions would take place at Presentation U: Speaking and Writing Center, located in The Hub of W.T. Young Library.
- Academic & Community Mentorship – Help students transition into university life by fostering strong foundational skills, promoting intellectual and personal growth, and cultivating a sense of belonging. As an Embedded Tutor, you guide learners toward academic success, encourage them to engage with campus opportunities, and build a supportive classroom community.
In the Classroom, Embedded Tutors are expected to:
- Assist to lead lecture and in class activities (you should strive to identify how to leverage their strength as a peer during class sessions)
- Engaging and building relationships with students before, during, and after class
- Connect students to resources and refer them to services as needed
