The Role

As a Strategic Advisor Technology Principal, Engineering Manager, you blend strong Software Engineering knowledge with a passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing associates. You are committed to improving the value delivered to our customers by collaborating with other leaders to establish standards for your chapter, influencing strategic decisions and building high quality software solutions. You are intellectually curious and are committed to developing your own expertise and empowering others by bringing the latest thinking to your role. In this role, you will directly manage a team of chapter members who work in autonomous squads within the Shared Services Product Area.

  • Supporting, coaching, and mentoring chapter members to help them reach their full potential, identify learning and growth opportunities, and build successful careers

  • Driving a focus within the Chapter on leveraging Software Craftsmanship principles to continuously improve our quality and engineering standards

  • Proactively partnering with Chapter Area, Product Area, Center of Excellence, and Squad Leaders to:

  • influence strategic backlog and prioritization decisions

  • measure performance through established objectives and KPI’s

  • 'align chapter members across squads and product areas to ensure the best utilization of talent

  • build learning opportunities and learning day content to develop associate skills

  • ensure the work performed is aligned with established road maps

  • remove impediments to delivering value

  • Actively sharing insights, knowledge, industry practices and developments within the Chapter and across the broader organization

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Significant experience building various components of scalable enterprise applications

  • Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing people and teams in an agile organization

  • Experience identifying and acquiring talent across large organizations

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with which to build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships at all levels of the organization

  • Decision making experience using a data-focused approach in day-to-day leadership situations and strategic tradeoff analyses

  • Front-end web development using responsive frameworks like Angular

  • Middle-tier service development with strong API design skills

  • Familiarity with running software on Cloud Service Providers like Amazon Web Services

  • Experience with relational database development is a plus (Oracle preferred)

  • Financial services experience is preferred

The Team

You will work in partnership with other leaders aligned to Strategic Advisor Technology group and the broader Technology domain within Asset Management. You will be part of the Engineering team that develops software applications to support Fidelity’s Managed Accounts teams. By demonstrating and promoting Fidelity’s Leadership Principles and agile leadership behaviors, you will have an opportunity to drive and sustain our innovative, collaborative team culture. The team you will be working with is highly engaged and passionate about solving problems faced by our Strategic Advisor. We are committed to evolving our agile software development process and incorporating the newest technologies and practices. We are moving towards continuous delivery using modern technologies like Angular, Java, PLSQL, NodeJS, Redux, Ionic, responsive CSS frameworks, AWS, and others.
