Physical Requirements
Moving and lifting object from floor to above shoulders up to 25 pounds. Standing and sitting at computer terminals and laboratory bench completing repetitive tasks for extensive periods of time. Working with materials requiring personal protective equipment in accord with EH&S policy.
Shift
Primarily day shift. Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Some evenings and weekends may be possible due to experimentation.
Job Summary
The laboratory of Dr. John McCarthy is seeking a Research Analyst to assist in studies investigating how the gut microbiome of exercise-trained mice can be leveraged to treat skeletal muscle atrophy.
Additionally, studies investigating the stability of myonuclei and how this changes with age and exercise. The successful applicant will be expected to have a comprehensive knowledge of the field of skeletal muscle plasticity, be highly organized, able to demonstrate the ability to generate experimental data, to have strong communication skills, and to be a team player.
The ideal candidate will have basic lab skills as well as additional experience in protein assays (ex. western blots), molecular assays (ex. PCR), histology, cell culture, mouse work, mouse colony management, and familiarity with mouse models of exercise. Experience in laboratory management is also highly valued (IACUC/IRB protocols, purchasing/ordering, lab maintenance, etc).
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Proficient and IACUC compliant small animal care; basic lab skills, (e.g., pipetting); basic computer skills (e.g., MS windows, excel).

Preferred Education/Experience
Preferred degree in a related field (science preferred) and Research laboratory experience.
