Job Synopsis

Synopsis
The MCC Research Intern is a short-term, part-time position within MCC’s Planning, Learning and Disaster Response (PLDR) department. PLDR supports organizational learning and planning, monitoring, evaluation, and impact reporting across MCC’s global programs. This role supports the collection, analysis, and synthesis of global impact data for MCC’s annual impact reporting.

This position works closely with the PLDR research analyst and is supervised by the U.S. PLDR co-director. The position is part-time and up to 120 hours total between late April and early June 2026. It is located in Winnipeg, MB. Due to the short-term nature of this position, relocation policies and benefit package do not apply.

Assignment Narrative:
Based in MCC Canada’s office in Winnipeg, the research intern will work within MCC’s planning learning and disaster response (PLDR) department to assist with the annual compilation and reporting of MCC-wide outputs and outcomes. During this three-month term, the research intern will support the collection of global MCC output and outcome data, analysis of data trends, and summary of impact information for internal reporting. The research intern will also conduct research on monitoring and evaluation best practices, tools and methods to support development of internal resources for MCC staff.

Essential:
  • Enrolled in, or recently completed, a university program in a relevant field (e.g., international development, peacebuilding, sociology, history, or related disciplines)
  • Strong research and qualitative/quantitative data analysis skills
  • Able to synthesize complex information into clear in written summaries
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • High attention to detail and comfort working with data systems and technology
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
  • Coursework or practical experience in monitoring and evaluation
  • Familiarity with international development or humanitarian programming
  • Experience with databases, reporting systems, or large data sets
  • Previous internship or research experience in a nonprofit or faith-based organization
  • Understanding of MCC’s mission, values, and global programs

Key Responsibilities

Tasks:
  • Ensure that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, spending time in devotions and prayer with all in attendance in local MCC setting.
  • Model nonviolent peacemaking through daily interactions with staff and the public.
  • Participate in a local church and gatherings, being willing to use their gifts within the local faith community.
  • Collect, compile and organize output and outcome data on MCC’s global program for annual reporting.
  • Analyze trends in program data and summarize key findings for internal use.
  • Review project reports to ensure outcomes are tracked using established indicators.
  • Support the compilation of outcome data for selected projects across program sectors.
  • Contribute to MCC-wide impact reports, including sector-level outcomes.
  • Prepare summaries of new or notable projects for use by communications and donor relations teams.

Contact/Relationships:

This position requires the person to frequently work closely as a team and to communicate with PLDR staff both in Canada and the United States as well as some interaction with MCC country program staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required to share information with staff.

Supervision:

No supervisory responsibilities.

Complexity/Competencies:

Requires good verbal and writing skills and good relational skills. Requires a high level of attention to detail, ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion and problem solve as needed. Ability to navigate online data base systems and feel confident with using technology and MS software.

Independent Action:

This position requires a self-motivated individual, able to prioritize and take initiative independently, as well as work within a team.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:

This position requires good written and verbal communication skills for working within a team environment.

Mental/Physical/Visual Demand:

This position will be desk-based with significant computer usage.

End Result:

Reliable tracking of project information and data gathering that will inform MCC’s annual impact reporting.

Salary Details

Base salary: $19.77. Salary is based on a living wage in Winnipeg, MB.
