ReStore Director

Posting Description

The ReStore Director (“Director”) provides Strategic and Operational leadership to the HFHC ReStore system. The Director is responsible for the ReStore’s Retail Operations, Procurement and Logistics, Warehouse and Distribution, Deconstruction, and Administration. The Director is responsible for successfully initiating, developing, and growing ReStore business activities to achieve revenue and operational goals, as well as raising awareness in the community about HFHC’s mission.

The Director holds management responsibility for retail operations, including staff development and safety, planning, financial management and controls, purchasing, donor and customer relations, and overall efficiency of the ReStore operations. Essential job functions include managing consistency of the overall operation across all stores and staff while focusing on revenue growth, expense stability, and the sustainability of ReStores Operations. The Director will also be an active participant in the Quarterly ReStore Committee meetings. The Director will participate in Board, Board Committee, and Leadership Team meetings as required.

The Director, in conjunction with the COO, is responsible for the creation of a 5-year strategic plan, updated annually. The strategic plan will ensure consistency in operations and decision making, including, but not limited, Lease Negotiations, Store Openings, Closings, and moves, updated policies and procedures, resource allocation, and performance evaluation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Direct the ReStore team in performance of their duties, establishment of performance measures, coordination of strategies, achievement of ReStore and organizational goals and objectives while in alignment with the approved strategic plan and annual budget and related to the generation of revenue through the sale of donated, purchased, and reclaimed building materials in support of HFHI and HFHC’s missions.

* Develop and improve processes and procedures for ReStore operations and recommend policy updates as necessary during the annual policy review requirement and gain approval from the Leadership Team, Board Committee(s), and/or the Board. Annually review and update HFHI Quality Assurance-required policies (Standard 4) as follows: ReStore and/or retail operation safety.
* Engage the Leadership Team, Board and Committees, employees, community members, donors, and volunteers, as necessary, to help expand the capabilities of the ReStores and complete efforts designed to improve the HFHC ReStore team.
Retail Operations Leadership
* In conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer, develop, annually update, and gain approval of the ReStore’s 5-year strategic plan and annual Budget. Gain approval from the Leadership Team, ReStore Committee, and Board.
* Lead and manage ReStore employees of all levels, set expectations using the annual budget and other mechanisms and ensure those expectations are met.
* Maintain a positive, collaborative, inclusive working environment in the ReStores and across the organization.
* Establish and maintain high levels of engagement and successful interaction with customers, volunteers, and donors.
* Lead and manage the donation receiving process, inventory management and control, call center, Fleet management, and business and ReStore operating systems.
* Responsible for the procurement process and development of relationships with existing and potential donors to increase the quality and quantity of donations and communication between the ReStores and donors.
* Ensure ReStore managers develop relationships with businesses and neighborhood associations to increase awareness of the ReStore brand.
* Provide vision for additional income producing opportunities by engaging with other ReStore affiliates and other means.
* Develop, recommend, gain approval, and implement policies and procedures designed to improve pricing, sales, materials acquisition, donations, inventory management, staffing, deconstruction programs and other ReStore operational areas.
* Monitor the competitive merchandise market environment (for-profit) and establish standard pricing policies to generate appropriate inventory turnover and maximum net income.
* Work with the HFHC Marketing department to help develop necessary strategies and communication to ensure compliance with HFHI and HFHC policies.
* Create an environment that will maximize volunteer engagement.
* Procure purchased goods in compliance with the HFHC UBIT policy.
* Maintain leased property in good and clean condition. Operate within boundaries of the existing lease and maintain a positive working relationship with the current landlord.

Finance & Compliance Leadership
* Understand and ensure complete compliance with all HFHI and HFHC policies and procedures and Federal, State, and local laws that impact the ReStore business.
* In conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer, develop and gain approval for the ReStore annual operating and capital expenditures budget.
* Engage ReStore managers in the budgeting process. Achieve agreement on monthly budgeted expense, revenue, and net income per ReStore and for the overall ReStore system to encourage ownership of individual ReStore budget by the ReStore Manager.
* Annually, update the ReStore’s 5-year strategic plan.
* Prepare and provide, in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer, periodic, however, no less than quarterly, strategic and financial updates for the Leadership Team, ReStore Committee, and the Board.
* Provide periodic, however, no less than quarterly, actual vs. actual and actual vs. budget comparisons to the * Leadership Team, ReStore committee, and Board.
* Annually review and update HFHI Quality Assurance reporting; specifically, required policies (Standard 4) as follows: ReStore and/or retail operation safety.
* Establish, in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, necessary financial and reporting controls over revenue, expenses, reporting, processes, and policies.
* Ensure compliance with Internal and other financial controls embedded into periodic financial reporting process.

Management & Staff Development
* Provide leadership, management training, and necessary support for ReStore managers and other ReStore employees.
* Define expectations and goals for each ReStore manager and other direct reports based on the ReStore’s annual budget and 5-year strategic plan.
* Provide training plans and complete scheduled management evaluations on a twice a year basis (January / June)
* Encourage staff responsibility and ensure acceptance of budget and strategic plan expectations to maintain accountability and staff responsibility for their job performance and maintenance of positive staff morale.
* Establish and maintain a staff culture that aligns with the HFHI and HFHC’s Mission, Vision, and expectations.
* Ensure all HR policies are communicated on a annual basis and all ReStore employees are in compliance with the same.
* Manage, complete, and ensure compliance with HR responsibilities regarding hiring, separation, interviews, necessary paperwork, and the on-boarding process.
* Ensure ReStore staff understand the importance of engagement with volunteers to ensure maximum participation and impact on the Mission.

Safety
* Assume responsibility to enforce safe work practices by all Habitat team members, volunteers, subcontractors, donors, and workers at all HFHC locations and events to ensure OSHA and Habitat safety policies and procedures are met or exceeded.
* Ensure all team members are aware of and operate by the safety policies and procedures for retail environment and transportation activities that protect the welfare of HFHC’s team members, volunteers, customers, and donors.
* Exercise outlined protocol by immediately notifying and collaborating with management on any safety related incidents. And, respond to any report involving HFHC or any other related team members (workers, volunteers, donors, and subcontractors).
* If within area of purview initiate and / or provide assistance for the proper investigation regarding safety incidents by following Habitat Safety policies and procedures.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
* Minimum ten years of retail-industry experience, preferably five years in retail or business management of a multi – location operation (operations, strategy, marketing, finance)
* Bachelor’s degree in business and / or related field preferred, minimum of an Associate’s Degree required
* Candidates may substitute additional experience, as described above and on a year-for-year basis, for up to two years of the required education.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently while achieving deadlines and flexibility in a fast-moving environment with changing priorities
* Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor, and analyze budgets and strategic plans
* Strong leadership and management skills.
* Ability to train and manage staff and volunteers in a positive manner to maintain a highly performing, motivated organizational atmosphere
* Provide customer service-oriented decision making in a professional manner
* Willingness to network as needed to advance the ReStore agenda
* Knowledge of sales, marketing, and logistics and working knowledge of POS operating systems
* Demonstrated conflict resolution experience
* Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Teams

Working Conditions
* The ReStore Director position is a regional retail leadership role and operates in retail stores, professional / administrative office environments. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop/desktop computers, photocopiers and smart phones. Travel to stores and periodically to construction sites and/or donor locations and vendor locations. The position may require travel to be outside in various weather conditions including extreme cold, extreme heat, rain, snow sleet etc.
