SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing professional care for Oncology patients following established standards and practices. Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team that plans and organizes all aspects of clinical patient care. Is an advocate for the patient and the clinic.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Handle the tasks for Nurse Practitioner patients and assist the Physician's PCCs with their tasks
- Works on tasks from Nurse Practitioners to make sure patient care has follow through and patient needs are met.
- Assists as needed, the Physician's PCCs in educating patients about treatments and serves as a patient advocate to achieve the highest quality outcomes as possible. Provides appropriate written materials. Documents Education sessions.
- Assists in providing symptom management and addresses patient questions and concerns, documenting in running task clearly.
- Assists Physician's PCC in their absence, in providing information on new treatments or changes to treatment to Infusion Charge Nurses according to Treatment Management procedure. Be familiar with the time needed by Finance to obtain prior authorization.
- Help to obtain signed consents for all treatments, (new or changed treatments) and/or gives forms to chemo nurses to complete as needed.
- Watch for follow-up appointments, reads provider dictation to remain updated on patient needs and status, and monitors missed appointments and calls patient to reschedule appointments when necessary.
- Provide documentation, teach and F/U on Genetic testing and Next Generation Sequencing as requested by provider.
- Delegate to, and, if needed, help the medical assistant team to schedule tests/scans, procedures and make referrals.
- Obtains and maintains OCN certification.
Oral Oncolytic Charge RN:
- Upon receiving new oral chemotherapy or treatment change order from physician or Physician's PCC, verify dosing accuracy, adherence to Prescribing Information and NCCN guidelines, to process oral chemo treatment.
- Perform Adherence Assessment for new patients.
- Understand the time required to obtain prior authorization, patient assistance and medication delivery in order to schedule patient start date.
- Enter regimen in Intellidose.
Assist with Triage Duties
- Provide RN back-up for symptom-based triage calls.
- May be asked to assist with coverage of vacations, etc., for triage team.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
General Skills:
- Must be proficient in standard computer programs and be able to navigate electronic medical records efficiently.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Able to work in a busy environment.
- Ability to work as a team player, recognizing that each person's contributions are integral to the delivery of excellent patient care.
- Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize.
- Able to work autonomously.
Clinical Skills:
- Critical thinking.
- Understanding of cancer basics, infusion and oral treatment regimens and management of side effects.
- Good assessment skills.
- Knowledge of Medical terminology.
Qualifications:
- Current Utah RN license.
- Maintain BLS certification.
- Previous oncology experience highly preferred.
- Obtain OCN certification within 24 months of hire.
- Maintain OCN certification.
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
