Job Summary

This position is located in Hazard, Kentucky and requires travel to counties within the Big Sandy Community and Technical College, Hazard Community and Technical College, and Southeast Community and Technical College service areas.

The University of Kentucky Center of Excellence in Rural Health (UK CERH) is seeking a Rural Outreach Coordinator to support the Career Ladders in Mental and Behavioral Health (CLIMB-Health) 2.0 initiative during the 2026–2027 academic years. This position is funded through a state contract through June 30, 2027; extension beyond this date is contingent upon additional funding.

The Rural Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating a Community Health Worker (CHW) training program for high school students enrolled for course credit within Big Sandy, Hazard, and Southeast Community and Technical Colleges. Key responsibilities include facilitating CHW and Teen Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, providing support to students completing the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) online training, coordinating a mentorship program to assist students with obtaining certifications in these areas, providing exam preparation sessions and competency assessments, and engaging in communication and outreach activities to promote the program and support cohort enrollment. This position will manage training logistics, track performance metrics, and report program outcomes. Additionally, this position will collaborate with KCTCS community colleges, behavioral health employers, participating high schools, and other stakeholders to establish training sites and delivery schedules. The role will also contribute to the development of academic transfer pathways within KCTCS to strengthen workforce development and expand student training opportunities.


The University of Kentucky Center of Excellence in Rural Health was established by state legislation in 1990 to address health disparities in rural Kentucky and the unique challenges faced by our communities. The mission was and still is today to improve the health and wellbeing of rural Kentuckians. For more than three decades, the Center has partnered with communities, providers, students, and individuals to provide health professions education, health policy research, health care service, and community engagement toward reaching this mission.

Preferred Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree with 2–3 years of experience in project coordination and training facilitation. CHW certification is strongly preferred. Valid driver’s license preferred.
