This is a fully benefited, full-time Harvard University position that has been funded through 1/29/27. There is the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding, university priorities and satisfactory job performance

Reporting to the Service Owner, CRM Consulting Services, the Salesforce Developer supports a fast-growing University-wide internal CRM consulting service. Using their knowledge of pro-code and low-code Salesforce development tools, including Apex, SOQL, LWC, and Flow, the Salesforce Developer will play a key role in determining the appropriate solution for customer needs within the overall structure of a new enterprise CRM for academic administration, and then where appropriate implementing that solution. Robust knowledge of Salesforce sharing and permissions, dynamic forms, Experience Cloud, and Apex enterprise architecture including asynchronous Apex, triggers, logging, and testing, are a must. The position will also have regular involvement with integrations to and from other Harvard systems; with DevOps tools, source control, and deployments; and with Salesforce areas such as Marketing Cloud integration and package-driven development.

More than many Developer positions, the Salesforce Developer will be a customer-facing role, frequently participating in governance activities to scope and prioritize the ongoing system enhancement needs of University customers. As such this position requires the ability to explain technical options to a non-technical audience, to work regularly in a collaborative manner, and to independently analyze and solve problems, escalating issues when appropriate.

The Salesforce Developer will join a growing CRM Services team that supports a variety of different Salesforce needs, offering numerous possibilities for professional development. They will also be joining a large and diverse Salesforce community at Harvard with many opportunities for learning, including an internal user group. Harvard University IT is committed to professional development and offers formal and informal trainings and learning opportunities on a regular basis.

  • Design, develop, and deploy new features and feature enhancements using the full range of Salesforce development tools.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Provide day-to-day customer support (including system configuration, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting) for multiple Salesforce implementations.
  • Maintain user roles, permissions and profiles, security settings, access and sharing settings, etc. to manage overall security across multiple orgs and editions of Salesforce.
  • Create and manage custom objects, fields, formulas, validation rules, custom automations and approval processes.
  • Support and maintain integrations with internal and third-party solutions.
  • Consistently implement best practices with regards to system configuration, development, testing, deployment, data integrity, etc.
  • Monitor Salesforce releases to identify key changes and ensure backward compatibility.
  • Document solutions, and train users in Salesforce and related tools.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a technology-related focus preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical role preferred.
  • Experience with the following is a plus:
    • Marketing Cloud
    • iterative, agile software development methodology and tools such as Jira
  • Familiarity with the following is a plus:
    • common AppExchange solutions such as FormAssembly, Conga Composer, Blackthorn, etc.
    • Harvard University or Higher Education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as a team member in a collaborative environment to achieve agreed-upon objectives.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive data with discretion and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment.

Work Format Details

This position is eligible for 100% remote work. Employees may work from any of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). At the discretion of the hiring department, fully remote employees may occasionally be required on-site at a Harvard location. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
