Position Summary

This Scientist position is based in New Brunswick, NJ. The role supports analytical development for Bristol Myers Squibb’s expanding biologics pipeline. The successful candidate supports biologics analytical development through the design, implementation, and operation of automation, modeling, and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches to enable more efficient, robust, and cost-effective workflows. These technologies and best practices will be transferred across functional areas, including clinical and commercial analytical and quality groups. The role also supports characterization and method development across early- and late-stage biologics programs via digitization capability, helping to modernize analytical workflows and improve throughput and data insights. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, highly collaborative environment, with potential to lead development activities and contribute to cross-functional, matrixed teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and deploy assay and data automation solution, part of the team to design and deploy analytical data modeling, and AI-enabled technologies for clinical analytical development, and support technology transfer to commercial analytical organizations.
  • Program, operate, and troubleshoot automated analytical/data platforms to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with automation specialist and digital teams to enable automated data capture and data integrity.
  • Evaluate and implement novel analytical platforms and automated technologies to enhance capability, robustness, and assay performance.
  • Support the develop biochemical methods as needed for biologics drug substance and drug product clinical release testing, stability studies, and characterization.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with Research, Process technology development, and Quality Control (QC) groups.
  • Maintain state-of-the-art scientific knowledge; present findings at internal and external forums; publish results; and author technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Sustain a safe, compliant, and high-performance laboratory environment.
  • Support planning and execution of internal and external events.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Ph.D. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Analytical Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, or a related discipline with 0-2 years of relevant industry and/or academic experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in one of these fields with a minimum of 2-4 years of relevant industry and/or academic experience. Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years' experience can be considered.
  • Hand-on experience on laboratory automation and liquid handling platforms (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton); capable of coding assay automation scripts.
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding on modeling, and/or AI-based technologies.
  • Familiarity with biologics analytical techniques for antibodies, antibody–drug conjugates, and RNA lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), including HPLC, UPLC, capillary electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing, FFF, MALS, and DLS.
  • A basic understanding of biologics process development.
  • Proficiency with Empower, SYMYX ELN, Microsoft Office applications, and data analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of statistical experimental design and data analysis.
  • Self-starter, strong communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Compensation Overview:

New Brunswick - NJ - US: $100,330 - $121,571


The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Paid Time Off

  • US Exempt Employees: flexible time off (unlimited, with manager approval, 11 paid national holidays (not applicable to employees in Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico or Rayzebio employees)
  • Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico and Rayzebio Exempt, Non-Exempt, Hourly Employees: 160 hours annual paid vacation for new hires with manager approval, 11 national holidays, and 3 optional holidays

Based on eligibility*, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.

All global employees full and part-time who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown.

*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.
