
Senior Accountant
SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant has responsibility for recording monthly activity for the company operations in a timely and accurate manner; collaborating with other Accounting staff, Business Office, Financial Planning & Analysis and Student Accounting functional department leaders to maintain accurate financial statements; performing financial statement analysis; GL account reconciling, internal financial reporting commitments, , , providing reports and support for external financial reporting requirements; participating with and supporting the analysis of the budget and forecast;, and assisting with special projects as needed. The Senior Accountant must assure that the Company philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and yearly closings that conform to GAAP, including recording all assigned journal entries to the general ledger in a timely and accurate manner, and perform thorough ledger reviews at the transactional, account, and statement levels.
- Reconcile accounts monthly, research discrepancy and proposing corrections as needed, reporting material findings to supervisors.
- Work with other accounting staff and functional departments to ensure that transactional activity is coded accurately and financial reporting integrity is maintained.
- Analyze campus financial statements monthly and develop variance explanations for distribution to management.
- Maintain and build month-end reporting for review of financial actuals versus plan and forecasts.
- Capital investment and fixed asset tracking, inventory, and reporting – adjustments for actuals and changes.
- Restricted funds and donations tracking, reconciliation, and reporting
- Assist with required filings state annual reports, business license, sales tax, property tax, IRS, state registrations and licenses, bonds. Includes leading the 1099 and 990 filing process.
- Lead support for lease administration.
- Business office support as needed to include risk management (e.g. claims, COI), accounts payable, and treasury functions.
- Assist with budget preparation process as assigned.
- Prepare campus financial audit schedules and resolve auditor questions.
- Initiate and assist with special projects, particular those involving advanced spreadsheet skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree, Accounting or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of related experience, progressive experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of GAAP.
- Experience with computer-based accounting system and Microsoft, Advanced Excel
- Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
- Detailed and accurate.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills
- Ability to work independently as well as alongside members of a team
- Ability to work independently and make decisions based on general guidelines.
