Summary/Objective:

The Senior Coordinator, Communications supports the Academy Museum's communications team in executing its goals and initiatives. This position will juggle multiple projects and absorb additional tasks as required and support and execute press related campaigns and strategies. The candidate must be well organized, detail oriented, and able to anticipate the needs of a fast-paced office.

This position is represented by a union.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Oversee the press email inbox and reply to general/press-related phone and email requests.
  • Maintain management tracking software with daily updates to keep the team on track.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit a variety of documents for accuracy, proper formatting, grammar, and spelling to ensure consistent professional output, including but not limited to press releases, newsletters, spokesperson talking points, media alerts, and digital posts.
  • Distribute communications via Salesforce Marketing Cloud and manage contact lists within the platform.
  • Media monitoring, tracking coverage metrics, compiling press reports, and press clip distribution.
  • Organize and maintain press kit materials, ensuring they are up-to-date, easily accessible, and ready for distribution.
  • Assist with pitching stories to domestic and international press to generate media coverage.?
  • Assist with special projects as assigned, including but not limited to coordinating press logistics and communication, managing RSVPs, and working on museum-related events.
  • Manage logistics for press events, onsite media shoots, and coordinate interviews with spokespeople.
  • Directly communicate - in person, by phone, and by email-with domestic and international press, internal staff, and Academy leadership.
  • Support the needs of the communications team, including coordinating and scheduling meetings and administrative work as needed.

Required Competencies:

  • A bachelor's degree with a career interest in public relations.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience working in publicity and/or public relations.
  • Ability to work discreetly and professionally with the press in high-pressure and public appearance situations.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, detail-oriented, organized, and with demonstrated computer expertise and experience.
  • Outstanding communication skills are a must; professional verbal and written communication with special attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to take directions from numerous parties, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • An enthusiastic person with a willingness to take initiative and approach all tasks, both small and large, with a positive outlook.
  • Some night and weekend work may be required and may be assigned on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Sales Force, Marketing Cloud, Air Table, Critical Mention, and CisionPoint.

Physical Demands:

  • Remain in a stationary position for periods of time.
  • Bending and moving.

Work Environment:

  • In office and on-site at the Academy Museum.

Travel: The percentage of travel time expected for the position is less than 5%. This includes driving to other Academy locations.

Required Vaccination: Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable. Exception:Medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.

Hybrid Requirement: All Academy positions require a minimum of 2-days per week of in-person work at an Academy Location. Exceptions: Positions requiring daily in person presence (ex. Front-line staff, staff who need to deal with materials on-site, etc.) and medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.

Compensation: The expected base salary for this role is $25.00 per hour. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.)
