A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.Purpose of PositionSummary: Coordinates activities of university laboratory to assist in teaching and research programs and provides complex (journey-level) level expertise in respective research field.Essential FunctionsProvides expertise in field of research as requested or necessary; relies on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish research goals; exercises a wide degree of creativity and latitude.Coordinates daily activities in a laboratory, including staff support and quality control.Supervises activities in laboratory research facilities; ensures proper procedures and helps devise development techniques; demonstrates care and use of equipment and provides training in application and use of new/current equipment.Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness.Handles all issues relating to lab supplies, including ordering new instruments, maintaining inventory, and proper storage.Prepares and puts in place equipment scheduled for use during laboratory/research sessions; may diagnose equipment malfunctions, dismantle, and repair equipment.Consults with designated personnel to determine laboratory use based on equipment availability, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities; confers with teaching/research staff periodically to evaluate new equipment and teaching methods.Support routine equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs or servicing to ensure proper functionality for instructional and research use.Provides guidance on local, state, and federal regulations to maintain lab compliance.Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.Complies with all State and University policies.Other duties may be assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
