Job Description

IT Project Managers provide key leadership to our technology projects in support of HBS’s mission to educate leaders who make a difference in the world.
The Senior IT Project Manager will be responsible for leading cross-functional project teams in the planning, execution, and delivery of technology efforts that enhance the teaching and learning experience at HBS. Responsible for the successful completion of these projects, they are an exceptional relationship manager and problem solver working in close collaboration with project teams to ensure project goals are met on time and on budget. The Senior IT Project Manager demonstrates advanced understanding of project management processes and applies them expertly and consistently to achieve successful execution of IT projects.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic, technology-comfortable project leader who thrives in collaborative environments but also demonstrates initiative and independence. They bring a proactive, solution-focused mindset to navigate complex challenges and maintain a positive, “can do” approach. They have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and can confidently lead discussions in conference rooms and virtual meetings, building trust and fostering alignment among technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead and successfully deliver multiple concurrent projects of varying complexity, size, and impact, delivering maximum value to stakeholders
- Manage multiple HBS partner, vendor, and IT relationships; develop deep relationships through trusting interactions
- Lead projects independently from ideation through delivery and from transition to service operation with the ability to clearly and effectively scope and define work efforts
- Estimate projects using multiple techniques to arrive at realistic schedules; clearly highlight methods used and assumptions made when communicating estimates
- Maintain a deep understanding of the scope of work and manage the project schedule; articulate how decisions may impact the schedule, budget, and/or scope accordingly
- Actively identify and manage project risks, issues, and decisions; navigate a complex matrixed organization to facilitate the resolution of these challenges
- Consistently manage and deliver project results predictably: on time, within budget, and on quality
- Provide consistent, timely, and well-crafted project progress status reporting and communications
- Build trust and collaboration by being present on-site and taking initiative to engage directly with colleagues, stakeholders, and various constituents
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned
Working Conditions:
- Additional support outside of regularly scheduled hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holiday breaks, may occasionally be required
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
The following are preferred:
- Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and IT Service Management (ITSM)
- Experience in using two or more project methodologies to deliver projects (i.e. Agile, Lean, Waterfall, etc.) to deliver successful outcomes
- Experience managing in vendor and 3rd party partners
- Experience leading project retrospectives and benefits analyses to drive organizational learning and improve future practices
- Effective at problem solving with a proactive solution-focused approach
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Displays adaptability, flexibility and resilience while maintaining grace and tact under pressure
- Maintains a positive outlook and "can-do" attitude with a respectful and approachable style
- Background in higher-education and/or experience working in a managed product technology environment
Certificates and Licenses:
The following is preferred:
- PMI or Agile certifications
Additional Information
- Standard Hours/Schedule: 40 hours per week
- Compensation Range/Rate (including Shift Differential if applicable): $115,000 - $120,000, salary commensurate with experience

- Other Information:
- This role is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA-based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite at least three days per week and for departments to provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
