GMNS Risk Management
American Express has a network that connects millions of consumers, merchants and businesses around the globe in a payments and commerce ecosystem that creates value for all its constituents.Our Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) Risk Management Team stands behind each of these purchases, thus protecting this network of millions of consumers, merchants and businesses.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, leveraging large amounts of linked and unstructured data within the Third-Party Processing (TPP) Portfolios as well as the wider GMNS Risk portfolio as a whole.
This position requires a highly organized person with excellent analytical capabilities, with the ability to bring an innovative perspective to the strategic and operating requirements of the role.
This person must be able to thrive in a dynamic environment while influencing colleagues from partner organizations, often with conflicting priorities. This position will liaise with key partners including the Sales, Partner Oversight, Risk and Technology teams to create and drive best-in-class strategy.
The Manager will join at team responsible for overseeing a portfolio with exposure of over $5 Billion. You will be protecting the merchant business P&L from loss, while carefully balancing the merchant and Partner relationship with Amex. The Manager must have good judgment, excellent communication skills, be analytical, motivated and be a strategic thinker, who can dive into numeric financial details and understand the business models of companies operating in different industries e.g. travel, retail and lodging. Our team members are multitalented who are self-directed and make decisions that have high stake profitability and risk tradeoff.
Responsibilities
- Develop and continuously enhance predictive models, strategies, processes, and controls for mitigating credit risk exposure and preventing fraud using advanced statistical and Machine Learning techniques, such as Gradient Boosting Machine, deep learning, and lookalike modeling.
- Design customer communication and servicing strategies to support risk management strategies, ensuring a positive experience across every customer touchpoint.
- Work in close partnership with American Express Technology to translate the needs of business owners/stakeholders and manage delivery of the Product roadmap and deploy next generation risk management capabilities, designed for long-term adaptability.
- Conduct quantitative analysis to determine the thresholds within which consumers and businesses can access funds.
- Identify, evaluate, and integrate new data sources and capabilities to identify emerging credit trends and uncover new fraud patterns.
- Maintain an effective control environment and respond to operational breakdowns with discipline. The role also includes working on special projects when needed, the ability to prepare presentations for upper management, pull data to support team BAU projects.
- Partner with Acquisition, Relationship Management, Compliance, Collections, Operations and External Agencies to implement strategies.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must be able to work under their own initiative and be able to problem solve in times of fast changing priorities. In addition, they must be able to navigate through often stressful, urgent, complex and ambiguous situations independently while seeking the win-win solution. Whilst striving for work life balance, the role will demand some flexibility due to the global nature of the wider team. Importantly, you must be passionate about what you do, proud about what you deliver and be prepared to go the extra mile to make a difference.
The incumbent must have the ability to apply analytical/quantitative and negotiating techniques which translates results to business solutions. Other critical strengths include very strong relationship management and communication skills. The applicant must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently to drive results within a strong team environment. The ability to influence others and manage multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic environment will be essential. Experience working in highly cross functional environments is desirable, as is the flexibility and adaptability to work with tight deadlines and changing priorities.
In addition, the following experience and qualifications are desired:
- Previous Merchant Acquiring Risk or Commercial Credit Underwriting experience throughout multiple industries;
- Strong financial and analytical acumen;
- Ability to cope with ambiguity and complexity, while handling a multitude of projects
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present to and work with Executives
- Demonstrated relationship building skills and experience managing multiple stakeholders
- Proficiency in working with large volumes of structured and unstructured data
- Creative thinker who thrives on finding unique solutions, particularly in workout scenarios, which enable all parties to “win”
- Proven programming skills and experience in SQL/SAS, object oriented or functional programming languages
- Expertise in all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PPT).
- Advanced degree, Certification or equivalent work experience
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually + bonus + benefits
