The Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) team within the Technology Business Enablement (TBE) organization helps American Express align its technology workforce with enterprise needs. The team serves as a strategic advisory partner to senior technology leadership providing Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), ensuring the right talent is available at the right place, time and within optimized global cost structure to support technology portfolio demand. SWP collaborates with ETS Portfolio, ETS Finance, Talent Acquisitions, Global Real Estate, Technology Vendor Management and other enterprise partners to deliver forward-looking, data-driven insights on workforce planning, organizational design, and location strategy - enabling coordinated decisions that support scalable growth and long-term business outcomes
The Sr. Manager, Tech Strategy – AI of SWP Team will play a key role in consulting ETS orgs and CIO on impact of AI on future of work while closely collaborating with internal ETS partners to drive enablement and validation
How will you make an impact in this role?
The Sr. Manager, Tech Strategy – AI of Strategic Workforce Planning Team will be responsible for defining, shaping, and enabling the team’s AI capabilities. This includes defining, maintaining and enabling the AI solution roadmap, identifying high-impact use cases, and ensuring alignment with broader ETS Strategies. In addition to this, the role would also be supporting SWP’s Directors and Vice Presidents in recommending CIO office and partner teams on strategies to advance an AI-enabled ETS workforce aligned with industry and technology trends
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead SWP AI strategy workstream indepdently within SWP Strategy and Solutions Enablement team driving SWP AI initiatives; ensuring high-impact results
- Partner with TBE and ETS stakeholders to define and advance the AI vision, roadmap, priorities, milestones, and measurable success metrics aligned to workforce strategy objectives
- Build AI roadmaps that show how to convert a technology strategy into a feasible implementation
- Support AI capability development efforts by contributing to requirements definition, use-case prioritization, solution design validation, and adoption planning for SWP AI initiatives
- Ensure high-quality execution of deliverables, adhering to timelines, budgets, and alignment with workstream goals
- Drive change enablement and stakeholder alignment to ensure effective implementation, socialization, and sustained adoption of AI-enabled SWP capabilities
- Ensure strategic alignment between TBE tools, AI initiatives, and broader enterprise workforce and technology strategies
- Lead ongoing market sensing and research across AI, emerging technologies, and workforce trends to evaluate the impact of new capabilities and inform forward-looking, AI-enabled ETS workforce strategies in a rapidly evolving landscape
- Develop executive-level presentations to inform and influence decision making through compelling storytelling
Minimum Qualifications:
- MBA or equivalent qualification preferred; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field considered as an advantageous
- Background in management consulting or internal consulting, with experience delivering initiatives across technology strategy domains such as AI Advisory and Enablement, Tech M&A, CIO Advisory, Digital Transformation, Technology Value Creation, Emerging and Future Technologies, and Portfolio Rationalization
- Preferred experience across AI/ML strategy, product management, technology strategy, strategic workforce planning, people analytics, and/or talent management initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technology and industry trends and translate insights into clear, actionable strategies
- Demonstrated experience developing AI or emerging technology roadmaps, translating strategic vision into actionable implementation plans
- Proven ability to build business cases, define use cases, and evaluate ROI for AI or advanced analytics initiatives
- Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, including generative AI, automation, predictive analytics, and enterprise AI platforms (technical depth not required, but strong working knowledge expected)
- Program management experience leading end-to-end strategic initiatives across key business verticals preferred
- Strong hands-on familiarity with AI-powered research and productivity tools, with demonstrated ability to integrate AI into day-to-day workflows and strategic problem-solving
- Preferred familiarity with AI governance, responsible AI frameworks, and data privacy considerations
- Demonstrated strengths in relationship building, customer-centric design, customer journey mapping, and external benchmarking
- Preferred experience collaborating with external vendors, startups, and industry innovators to evaluate disruptive technologies and assess their applicability within the payments ecosystem
- Preferred experience supporting business-critical, cross-functional initiatives to assess and integrate technology strategy within broader enterprise objectives
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually + bonus + benefits
