The Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) team within the Technology Business Enablement (TBE) organization helps American Express align its technology workforce with enterprise needs. The team serves as a strategic advisory partner to senior leadership within Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), ensuring the right talent is available at the right place, time and within optimized global cost structure to support technology portfolio demand. SWP collaborates with ETS Portfolio, ETS Finance, Global Real Estate, Technology Vendor Management and other enterprise partners to deliver forward-looking, data-driven insights on workforce planning, organizational design, and location strategy - enabling coordinated decisions that support scalable growth and long-term business outcomes.

The Sr. Manager, Tech Strategy of the Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) Team will act as SWP delegate for set of senior ETS leaders (SLTs) focusing ETS lines of business (ETS LOB) and their Chief of Staff to provide strategic guidance on LOBs workforce strategy, planning and multi-year forecasting while closely working with our internal ETS partners for enablement.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Sr. Manager, Tech Strategy of Strategic Workforce Planning Team will own and manage relationships with a set of senior ETS leaders and their Chief of Staff and partner with teams including ETS Portfolio and ETS Finance. This role will manage the leaders’ workforce strategy, driving a regular cadence of meetings to discuss insights and trending around items such as contractor/ colleague ratios, workforce productivity, future skills requirements, and global location growth. The Sr. Manager, Tech Strategy enables this through:

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, delivering data-driven workforce insights and strategic guidance.
  • Shaping strategy for a future-focused workforce by analyzing the impact of artificial intelligence on skills, roles, and workforce composition.
  • Partnering with senior leaders and Chiefs of Staff through a structured cadence to define and advance workforce strategy.
  • Synthesizing complex data to assess scenarios, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver actionable recommendations.
  • Generating forward-looking insights by integrating internal data with external benchmarks
  • Collaborating with cross-functional partners (ETS Finance, ETS Portfolio Management, People teams) to deliver integrated workforce perspectives.
  • Developing executive-ready materials with clear, compelling data storytelling.
  • Driving outcomes through disciplined planning, execution, and facilitation of leadership discussions
  • Continuously enhance self-service strategy, planning, and reporting tools through leader and partner feedback.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify trends, develop hypotheses, synthesize insights, and translate analysis into actionable recommendations.
  • Proven communication and influencing skills, with experience engaging senior stakeholders and building trusted relationships.
  • Highly organized, with experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives and delivering strategy projects end to end.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Experience in strategic workforce planning, people analytics, or talent management.
  • Background in management or internal consulting, delivering technology strategy initiatives (e.g., CIO advisory, digital transformation, Tech M&A, portfolio rationalization)
  • Experience engaging with artificial intelligence to inform strategic insights, workforce transformation, or future-of-work initiatives.
  • Experience integrating technology strategy into broader enterprise strategy through cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to assess complex technology trends and convert insights into executable strategies
  • Program management experience leading large-scale strategy initiatives across multiple business verticals
  • Experience partnering with external vendors, startups, or industry innovators; exposure to the payments ecosystem a plus

Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually + bonus + benefits
