Senior Performance Engineer

We are looking for a highly motivated principal software engineer with focus on capacity and performance analysis who can support our digital applications in multiple ways such as capacity planning, observability, anomaly detection, CI / CD build out, analysis, and application development. The team focus will be on stability of entire eco-system. The outcome of this role will elevate the efficiency and speed at which Fidelity not only delivers stable products but delivers quality to our customers.

The EC3 QPC (Quality Performance and Capacity) resides in the FAE business unit of Fidelity Investments. The chapter consists of over 150 multi-stacked engineers with a passion around customer experience and with the engineering tool set to seek challenges including: Automated testing, performance testing, chaos testing, application cloud migration and management, CI / CD implementation, security testing and application development. The chapter’s support spans across all of PI and provides domain specialists to squads who develop products with the highest customer quality, security, stability, and experience.

The Expertise You Have
- Design, develop, and execute load, stress, endurance, and scalability tests using tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or inhouse built tools.
- Create performance test strategies, scenarios, and scripts aligned with application architecture and business requirements.
- Integrate performance tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous validation.
- Development experience in Java, Python, Perl, or SQL is nice to have.
- Understand critical production applications and their infrastructure dependencies to monitor, analyze, and detect anomalies.
- Solid understanding of resource consumption, memory behavior, and network protocols to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize system behavior.
- Define and track KPIs such as request rates, transactions per second, and client volumes to plan for future growth and plan adequate capacity.
- Use historical trends and predictive models to anticipate growth and ensure systems scale effectively.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to implement proactive capacity adjustments.
- Apply SLI/SLO/SLA principles and golden signals for critical applications, leveraging telemetry, anomaly detection, and observability practices.
- Analyze performance test results and system metrics to identify bottlenecks and recommend optimizations.
- Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure adequate capacity and performance tuning.
- Develop interactive dashboards and reports with impactful visualizations using BI Publisher and/or Tableau.
- Present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.
- Utilize monitoring tools such as Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and others.
- Explore new trends in automation and integrate performance testing into day-to-day activities.
- Solid understanding of virtualized environments (VMware/vSphere/OLVM, OpenStack) and modern application frameworks.
- Knowledge of application modernization concepts including microservices and APIs.
- Stronger understanding of containerization technologies specifically docker and Kubernetes (Pods ,services and namespaces)
- Proven experience with AWS and Azure cloud compute and storage services (AWS certification is a plus).
- Owns the outcome by taking personal accountability for delivering strong results

- Able to work with remote and international team members
- 8+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 6+ years with a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
