Position Summary:
As a Senior Scientist, you will combine high‑level scientific expertise with operational ownership. You will independently design and execute complex analytical studies, drive method readiness for process work and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for key chromatographic and electrophoretic methods. You will also act as an Operations Manager—owning weekly task assignment and coordination to ensure clear priorities, balanced workload, and reliable coverage for the PA lab.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Analytical leadership: Independently design, execute, interpret, and report complex analytical studies supporting process characterization, and investigations. Serve as an SME for assays such as CE‑SDS, SEC, RP‑HPLC/peptide mapping, iCIEF, glycan analysis, and titer methods; lead readiness/qualification activities for assays entering major campaigns.
- Method troubleshooting & improvement: Diagnose and resolve method performance issues (e.g., robustness, variability, system suitability) and drive continuous improvement to enhance data quality, efficiency, and reliability in PA
- Operations management: Own weekly task assignment across PA scientists/analysts; lead weekly coverage meetings to review incoming studies, volumes, timelines, and capacity; review sampling plans and apply scientific judgment; coordinate communications on priorities, special testing needs, and sample drop‑offs; escalate bottlenecks and rebalance work with group leads as needed
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Partner with Process Development/Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and MS&T sub‑functions to ensure analytical readiness for tech transfer/scale‑up; represent PA on project teams, communicating risks, results, and study implications.
- Documentation & data integrity: Author high‑quality technical memos, qualification packages, and study reports; ensure data capture, review, and verification align with PA practices, ELN/DevLIMS workflows, and BMS data‑integrity expectations
- Demonstrated continuous‑improvement mindset (assay robustness, efficiency, data quality
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree w/ 7-9 years of experience, or Master's degree with 4-6 years of experience, or PhD with 2-4 years of experience
- Knowledge of bioprocess engineering, analytical science, or manufacturing sciences generally attained through studies resulting in a B.S. in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Demonstrated mastery of SOPs, cGMPs, ALCOA+ data integrity principles, and the ability to work effectively within a regulated biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Strong experience supporting and interpreting data from biologics manufacturing processes, including upstream and downstream unit operations
- Proven competency in the successful execution of process technical transfer, including analytical readiness for engineering runs, PPQ campaigns, and commercial manufacturing, with the ability to assess risk and define mitigation strategies
- SEC‑UPLC, CE‑SDS (reduced and non‑reduced), RP‑HPLC / peptide mapping, iCIEF, glycan analysis (HILIC), ELISA‑based assays (HCP, rProtein A), and titer methods
- Hands‑on experience with Waters UPLC platforms (ACQUITY Classic, H‑Class, Premier) and associated detectors (UV, FLR), with working knowledge of method robustness, system suitability, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Experience using and managing data within Empower, ELN systems (e.g., Symyx), LIMS/DevLIMS, and Spotfire
- Demonstrated competency in project and operational management, including prioritizing multiple concurrent assignments, balancing routine manufacturing support with project deliverables, and driving work to completion under tight timelines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal and facilitation abilities to influence at all levels of the organization and effectively lead scientists and multi‑disciplinary teams

Compensation Overview:
Devens - MA - US: $120,740 - $146,312
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Paid Time Off
- US Exempt Employees: flexible time off (unlimited, with manager approval, 11 paid national holidays (not applicable to employees in Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico or Rayzebio employees)
- Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico and Rayzebio Exempt, Non-Exempt, Hourly Employees: 160 hours annual paid vacation for new hires with manager approval, 11 national holidays, and 3 optional holidays
Based on eligibility*, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.
All global employees full and part-time who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown.
*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.
