The U.S. Consumer and Digital Technology (USCDT) Team brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), AI/ML, marketing technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and automation, grounded in our data technology model that prioritizes data governance. American Express Ads, Offers, and Dining Technology brings together our advertising, offers, and dining platforms to elevate the Membership experience. The team drives the expansion of Amex Offers, the development of innovative digital advertising capabilities, and leads the end-to-end technology integration and platform development of our dining services—including Resy, Tock, and Rooam – to create seamless connections between diners, restaurants, and the broader American Express Membership ecosystem.

Responsibilities:
- Define and evolve the unified platform architecture spanning shared services, APIs, identity, payments integrations, and partner ecosystems
- Lead modernization of legacy systems into cloud-native, event-driven, service-oriented architectures
- Partner with Data Engineering to align on data governance, shared schemas, and platform capabilities that enable secure, scalable, and trusted data access across the ecosystem.
- Cultivate an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics.
- Collaborate and provide technical expertise to help engineers overcome complex problems and implement the architecture laid down
- Actively participate in team and company-wide architecture and engineering discussions / forums
- Engage in hands-on design and ensure alignment of strategy, architecture, tools/methods with software engineers and architects to execute product roadmaps.
- Drive both high-level and detailed technical designs and lead design reviews.
- Enable integrated teams to deliver technology solutions in support of key product initiatives by working closely with technical project managers, architects, engineers, and quality assurance.
- Establish best practices for software development and testing.
- Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify software for use in local, networked, cloud-based or internet-related environments.
- Oversee health and quality of code across the portfolio, including leadership functional testing and CI/CD tool integration.
- Provide technical mentorship to other software engineers at all levels.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or related experience with advanced degree preferred
- 12+ years of experience managing agile software engineering teams designing and building software products in a fast paced, complex, and dynamic product development environment.
- A Full-stack expert having expertise in building web applications revolving around technology stacks like Java, Javascript, React JS, Node JS, Kafka, Redis etc. Also, in-depth knowledge on Application design, testing capabilities, Design & building Microservices.
- Extensive hands-on experience building distributed applications and managing the development of complex, large scale enterprise applications and products that require a deep understanding of application logic and dependencies.
- Experience with high throughput and low latency needs applications.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and takes pride in how fast they develop working software.
- Proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization, and in a variety of contexts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field
- 12+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer, preferably in a fast-paced startup environment
- 3-5 years of experience working as a Software Engineering Staff Engineer / Architect
- You are a self-starter but very comfortable working closely with a team
- You are comfortable working with stakeholders outside the Engineering team including our Compliance, Information Security, Product, Design, Sales and Account Management teams
- You have strong expertise with the following:
- Strong experience with a backend programming languages, Java & Web frameworks preferred
- SQL / MySQL / Postgres/MongoDB/CouchDB
- RDBMS and database design
- Unit / Functional Testing
- Linux / UNIX
- Implementing and building APIs
- Monitoring system performance
- Leading and growing teams of fellow engineers through complex deliveries
- A history of taking projects through the entire software development lifecycle from inception to delivery as a technical leader
- A passion for documenting how systems work
Big Plus if you have:
- History of building and maintaining systems at large scale
- Ability to effectively interpret technical and business objectives and challenges and articulate solutions
- Willingness to learn new technologies and exploit them to their optimal potential
- Experience with and understanding of the Resy suite of applications

Salary Range: $144,250.00 to $256,250.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
