Join Multnomah County as aSenior Systems Administratorand play a vital, hands-on role in keeping our community connected. Your days will involve administering and implementing network configurations, and installing and maintaining physical network systems to keep pace with evolving customer demands and continuous growth, while keeping our services secure and reliable.

In this role, you will:

  • Architect and Design: Join a team of fellow senior administrators in designing, installing, and configuring the County’s network to support data, voice, video and other communications which will also include critical connections with other organizations. In partnership with your peers, you will evaluate short- and long-term customer requirements and recommend new network solutions to meet evolving business needs, as well as improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Manage and Troubleshoot: Proactively monitor network performance, troubleshoot complex outages, and work with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues swiftly.
  • Secure the Environment: Together with the IT Security Team, you'll help keep our data and systems secure by putting protective measures into practice. You’ll ensure our systems are patched and up to date, and help to shape our disaster recovery plans, ensuring our critical systems are current and safe.
  • Develop Documentation: Ensure our system processes and configurations are thoroughly documented. Create and maintain clear, detailed technical documentation for complex network configurations, system operations, and procedures.

To Qualify

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree (in lieu of degree, equivalent years of experience will be considered).

AND

  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in wide area network design, management, and advanced diagnostics. (Equivalency to a total of 7 years of qualifying training and/or experience)
  • Ability to pass a criminal records check.
  • **Knowledge Skills and Abilities Listed below (KSAs) - You must have the KSA's listed.

**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Expert knowledge and skill of technical integration experience in heterogeneous enterprises.
  • Expert knowledge and skill of the principles of IP addressing, communication protocols, and domain name services.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability managing diverse networks using a variety of transports.
  • Advanced knowledge of network security and at least five (5) years of wide area network (WAN) experience that includes management of authentication systems, access control software, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Advanced knowledge, skill, and ability of the design, configuration, and management of devices using Cisco IOS and Cisco NX-OS.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability with Quality of Service (QoS) concepts and implementation.
  • Advanced ability to create and maintain complex network diagrams and schematics.
  • Working knowledge and skill with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes.
  • Working knowledge and skill of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes and methodology.

  • Familiarity with OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and DMVPN design and configuration

Additional Details

Type of Position: This is an hourly on-site, AFSCME Local 88 union-represented position and is eligible for overtime

Work Location: This position requires working on-site. Your main location is the Multnomah Building.

Location:501 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland, OR 97214

Schedule: Include Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. There is some flexibility with the start and end times.

All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. We are unable to sponsor work visas, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, or STEM OPT.
