The Senior Systems Engineer position reports to the Environmental Services Group Engineering Team Leader (TL) and is responsible for leading complex soil and groundwater remediation and industrial wastewater collection and treatment system design, installation, and operation, monitoring, and maintenance (O&M) projects under our expanding Environmental practice in Daly City, California, as well as supporting projects across EKI’s geographic footprint. The position requires collaboration with clients, oversight of contractors, strategic interaction with regulatory agencies, and leadership and mentorship of internal teams to develop practical and cost-effective solutions to complex business and technical challenges. In addition, the position will require supporting the Engineering Technical Director (TD) to grow the firm’s technical capabilities and promote quality of client service, efficiency, and cross-practice collaboration in the delivery of technical services.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:
Serve as a technical leader of the Environmental Services Group Lead, direct, and contribute to environmental engineering and contractor teams to execute complex systems design, installation, and O&M projects meeting technical, quality, budgetary, and scheduling requirementsCollaborate with multidisciplinary design and construction teams to integrate environmental design considerations into our clients’ redevelopment or improvement designsApply expertise, creativity, and innovation to strategically solve complex problems as an advocate for EKI’s clientsPrepare high-quality deliverables including design plans and technical specifications, operation and maintenance manuals, pilot test workplans/reports, engineer’s cost estimates, and bid packages Provide mentorship to early career staff to develop technical skillsCommunicate technical content to varied audiences leveraging high-quality and concise verbal and written skillsImplement risk management strategies related to the design, installation, and O&M of systems, including the management of contractual risk, in collaboration with senior managementContribute to EKI internal initiatives to develop and refine engineering standards and practices in collaboration with the Engineering Technical DirectorParticipate in request for proposal evaluation, proposal preparation, client interviews, and contract negotiations, as appropriateContribute to EKI participation and thought leadership in environmental engineering and related professional associations and conferencesEnsure compliance with safety standards Implement policies that promote company culture and vision as developed by the EKI management teamOther duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering or related engineering discipline; Master’s degree preferredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities
Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a systems engineer or similar roleMust have Professional Engineer license in the State of California or be able to obtain license within 12 months following employmentMust be able to critically review and edit technical reports to meet scope and quality objectives, as well as client expectationsMust have skills in quality control, planning, cost estimating, and schedulingMust have a record of successful client advocacy and excellence in client-facing technical communicationsMust be able to assign and manage workMust have effective mentoring skillsMust be able to provide real time input to engineering teams during preparation of technical workplans, design deliverables, and construction submittals and requests for information from construction contractorsOSHA HAZWOPER training preferred but not requiredCompetencies
Must have advanced communication skills both oral and written, including ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, technicians, designers, engineers, owners, and other project managers for the preparation of high-quality work productsMust have a strong work ethic and attention to detailMust be able to develop strong relationships with clients and potential clients to position EKI to win work from these contactsMust have advanced ability to multi-task, stay organized, work independently, and lead various project teamsMust have a strong desire to grow personally as well as professionallyMust have a great attitude and eager to learnMust have a current valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight for customer meetings and site visits up to 20% of the time
