Within your first 90 days, you’ll have a well-organized service operation where technicians know their schedules in advance, service tickets are completed accurately and on time, inventory is controlled with minimal waste, and safety procedures are consistently followed. Your team will know what “great work” looks like and customers will feel it through reliable service and clear communication.
What You’ll Actually Do in Your First 30 Days
- Get to know your service technicians and office staff through ride-alongs, one-on-ones, and observing day-to-day operations
- Review current safety procedures, training records, and compliance requirements, identifying any immediate gaps
- Learn EDP’s dispatching, work order, and inventory systems and begin improving scheduling accuracy
- Partner with the General Manager to understand hiring needs, customer priorities, and profitability goals for the service department
What You’ll Do
- Lead a service team of 2–3 office staff and 6–12 service technicians with a clear focus on safety, quality, and accountability
- Plan, estimate, and oversee new customer installations from start to finish
- Create, prioritize, schedule, and dispatch service work orders to balance urgent needs and planned work
- Manage service parts and appliance inventory to reduce waste and improve ROI
- Conduct regular safety meetings and provide ongoing safety training to ensure compliance
- Review documentation and paperwork to ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness
- Support the General Manager with hiring, performance evaluations, sales support, and customer retention efforts
Must Have
- 3+ years of hands-on Service Technician experience in the propane or heating oil industry
- Prior experience leading or supervising technical teams
- Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and regulatory compliance
- Valid driver’s license with a safe, clean driving record
- Ability to quickly learn and maintain required technical credentials
Nice to Have
- CDL license
- Experience managing service department budgets, inventory, or profitability metrics
- Experience coordinating installations and large service projects
- Comfort supporting sales and customer retention initiatives
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $70,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience
