Role: Software Asset Manager (SAM)
The Role
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Software Asset Manager to join the Fidelity ITAM Team. In this critical role, you'll be responsible for the governance and management of our enterprise-wide IT asset portfolio, with an emphasis on software. You will develop and implement strategies to control costs, mitigate compliance risks, and optimize asset utilization across their entire lifecycle. Your expertise will be crucial in managing complex, large-scale vendors, ensuring our company maximizes the value of its significant technology investments in a highly regulated financial environment.
Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive IT Asset Management (ITAM) policies, processes, and procedures for both hardware and software.
Drive administration and optimization, leveraging the ServiceNow platform, SAM Pro module to manage complex software entitlements and reconciliation.
Influence the complete IT asset lifecycle, from procurement and deployment to maintenance, utilization, and secure disposal.
Lead software license management and compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to complex enterprise agreements with major vendors like IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle to avoid audit risks and financial penalties.
Conduct regular internal audits and reconciliation of asset data within ServiceNow to maintain the accuracy of the ITAM database and Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
Analyze asset data and usage trends to identify opportunities for cost savings through license optimization, hardware consolidation, and strategic sourcing.
Collaborate closely with IT, Finance, Procurement, and Legal teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and contract negotiations for IT assets.
Generate and present detailed reports and dashboards from ServiceNow on asset inventory, compliance status, and financial metrics to senior leadership.
Stay current with industry best practices, licensing models, and regulatory changes impacting IT assets within the financial services sector.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
Required Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in IT Asset Management, with a proven track record within a large, complex enterprise environment, preferably in financial services.
Team Player: Self-motivated, who brings energy, enthusiasm, and intellectual curiosity to the role.
ServiceNow Expertise: Expert-level, hands-on experience with the ServiceNow platform is required, specifically with the Hardware Asset Management (HAM) and Software Asset Management Professional (SAM Pro) modules.
Vendor Management Expertise: Extensive, hands-on experience managing enterprise-level licensing agreements and relationships with major software vendors such as IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle.
Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of ITAM principles and best practices (e.g., ITIL, IAITAM). Experience with other discovery tools is a plus.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex datasets, identify discrepancies, and translate data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of budgeting, financial analysis, and cost allocation as they relate to technology assets.
Communication & Negotiation: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and influence stakeholders across the organization.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional execution skills with a meticulous and detail-oriented approach to managing asset data and ensuring compliance with intricate contract terms.
Certifications (Preferred): Certified IT Asset Manager (CITAM), Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM), or ServiceNow certifications (e.g., Certified System Administrator, SAM Professional) are highly desirable.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.

As part of Enterprise Infrastructure & Operations Foundational Tools Team, you will partner across Fidelity technology organizations to implement and support industry leading software asset management practices. You will also play a key role in driving the automation and modernization of Fidelity’s SAM practices to support the next generation IT Operations, SRE and DevOps.
