1. GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION
Position Name:     Sports Medicine Clinical Instructor
Classification:    hourly non-exempt, non-benefits eligible
FTE:   < 0.50 FTE
Work Hours:    variable
Department/Division:    Sports Medicine
Supervisor:    Director, Sports Medicine


2. POSITION SUMMARY
Sports Medicine Clinical Instructors in the Sports Medicine program provide sports medicine clinical care to active persons, and further serves as an in-person supervisor for students enrolled in the Masters of Sports Medicine Program at University of Western States. This position is local to events around the Portland, OR, metro-area and Western Oregon.


3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
45% - Provide proper care of sports related   injuries and illnesses, including evaluation/diagnosis, first aid, taping, bracing, and emergency care as appropriate under Oregon law for the individual’s licensed profession. 

5% - Properly and effectively communicate to athletes, coaches, staff, and other         health care professionals and provide proper healthcare referrals as appropriate to necessitate the standard of care. 

50% - Oversee students’ duty hours onsite at sports medicine events. Provide students with educational opportunities and oversee care provided at events.

5. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training Required:

•    Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training 

OR

•    Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) with a master’s degree in sports medicine, exercise science, or closely related discipline.
Education & Training Preferred:

•    Master’s Degree in Athletic Training


Certifications &  Licenses Required:

•    All applicants must have and maintain current CPR/AED Certification. 

•    ATs: Active Oregon AT license in good standing or ability to attain within 45 days.

OR

•    DCs: Active Oregon DC license in good standing or ability to attain within 45 days.

Certifications &  Licenses Preferred:

•    Attainment of additional credentials related to sports medicine or exercise science, such as CCSP, CES, PES, etc.

•    DCs Only: Attainment of CCSP, DACBSP, or other post-graduate credentials related to sports medicine or exercise science. 

Experience Required:

•    Minimum one full year of clinical practice in the field of sports medicine or similar patient care. 

AND
•    Minimum one year of post-graduate teaching experience at the master’s level or higher, such as a TA, Adjunct Faculty, etc. 

Experience Preferred:

•    At least two years clinical experience in sports medicine 

AND

•    Two years instructional experience in a master’s degree program or higher.

Related Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Preferred:

•    Prior clinical teaching and/or clinical supervisory experience
