ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Review auto retail installment contract packages submitted for funding that contain variances from the originally approved terms.
- Analyze borrower profiles, deal structure, credit bureau data, and supporting documentation to assess risk and determine eligibility for exception approval.
- Make informed credit decisions on exception requests within designated authority limits; escalate as appropriate with clear rationale and recommendations.
- Partner with credit analysts, funding teams, and sales/operations leadership to ensure timely resolution of exception cases without compromising credit standards.
- Provide guidance on exception trends and root causes to help refine credit policies and reduce exception volume over time.
- Maintain high standards of documentation and audit readiness for all exception decisions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including policy updates, system enhancements, and training efforts.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects aimed at improving credit risk oversight and operational efficiency
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & LICENSES:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in auto finance credit analysis, underwriting, or funding with a focus on exception handling or credit risk assessment.
- Strong knowledge of consumer credit regulations, auto lending policies, and retail installment contract structures.
- Prior experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume auto finance environment.
- Demonstrated leadership or mentorship in credit decisioning roles.
- Strategic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset and operational acumen.
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to assess complex credit situations and make independent, well-supported decisions.
- Proven ability to manage high volumes of work while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence across teams and levels.
- High proficiency in credit systems and tools (e.g., LOS, DMS, credit bureau platforms).
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CFA, CBA) a plus. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Senior Level Individual Contributor: Minimum 10 Years of Experience
- 10+ years related experience required in auto finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior relationship management experience required.
