
Sr Staff / Senior Python Software Engineer

SciTec is seeking a talented Python software developer and engineer in Boulder, CO, to support programs focusing on missile warning and missile tracking missions. Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Python, thrive as part of a rapidly paced, collaborative, small-team environment consisting of Scientists, Engineers, and Developers, and be able to prototype, develop, integrate, and test advanced software solutions.
Responsibilities
- Work independently and with our team to develop high-quality software features aligned to project goals
- Coordinate and collaborate with advanced technical users on scientific and analysis objectives
- Contribute to end-to-end containerization and distributed microservice development, deployment, and test frameworks
- Enable and maintain real-time data processing streaming platforms/workflows as well as messaging libraries and ensure their reliability and scalability
- Mentor entry-level and mid-level engineers, promoting strong engineering habits and technical growth
- Identify technical risks and provides risk reduction strategies to meet program objectives
- Guide Agile development processes, including code reviews, architectural discussions, and sprint planning
- Champion comprehensive testing practices including unit, integration, and system testing
- Ensure code quality, clarity, and maintainability aligned with modern Python standards
- Support documentation, knowledge sharing, and clear communication across the organization
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, or computer science
- 6+ years professional software engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with microservice architectures and distributed system design
- Strong proficiency in Python and Pytest
- Professional experience using the Linux operating system and code management, such as git
- Demonstrated understanding of core software engineering principles, design patterns, and modularity
- Commitment to high-quality code, testing, and continuous improvement
- Ability to work in-person in Boulder, CO office location
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- Demonstrated ability for cross-discipline collaboration
- Detail oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Candidates who have any of the following skills will be preferred:
- An advanced degree in the physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, or computer science
- Experience or background with remotely sensed data
- Familiarity with messaging technologies such as protobuf, ZMQ, Kafka, gRPC, REST APIs
- Professional experience with DevOps processes and tools such as Docker, Jenkins, gitlab CI/CD
- Professional experience with Agile software development processes and tools, such as Jira
- An active DoD security clearance

The pay range for this position is $126,000- $175,000 / year. SciTec considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills. This is not a guarantee of compensation.
