1601 Washington StreetPosition Summary:
Under the direction of the Clinical Director of the Vision Center, the staff optometrist will provide eye care services to pediatric and adult patients at the Health Center.Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Provide optometric services including comprehensive exams, problem-based visits, and contact lens fittings. Order auxiliary testing as clinically appropriate (e.g. visual fields, anterior/posterior segment imaging, corneal topography).
- Diagnose, treat and manage ocular conditions, refer appropriate cases to ophthalmology.
- Communicate with team members in other clinical and administrative departments to provide continuity of care for patient
- Oversee student externs rotating through clinic.
- Provide patient and staff education about the importance of regular eye care.
- Co-manage post-operative cases with ophthalmology where appropriate
- Attend scheduled departmental meetings
- Adhere to departmental protocols and health center policies regarding infection control and patient safety
- 36 payroll hours per week dedicated to patient care, which includes precepting optometric externs and providing direct care.
- 4 payroll hours per week dedicated to administrative tasks, including chart completion, following up on referrals, set-up and training incoming optometry externs
Requirements:
- Graduate of an optometry college accredited with the ACOE
- Holds a current optometry license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, with Topical and Oral Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents and Glaucoma Certification (TPA + GC)
- BLS certification
- At least two years of relevant clinical experience is required, or successful completion of an optometry residency program
- Working knowledge and experience with electronic medical record systems, performance dashboards, database products, and analytic tools
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and teaching skills, and demonstrate ability to work in a team-based environment to maximize clinical operations.
Salary:
- Starting at $125,634 and up to $142,872 per year based on experience.
