Job Summary

The Gatton College of Business and Economics Facilities Department seeks a dedicated STEPS Facilities Assistant to support the daily operations of our 210,000+ square foot building.


Job Duties may include:


  • Maintain detailed records in Excel spreadsheets and in-house software for space inventory, furniture tracking, battery changes, filter replacements, furniture movements, and other activities.
  • Assist with annual space database updates by touring the building, verifying occupants, and entering or editing data in the university and college space database systems.
  • Tour the facility regularly to identify and report needed maintenance, custodial, or other repairs. Enter and track work requests in the UK Facilities management work flow system. Work with Facilities management personnel and supervisors to ensure work requests are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a watchful eye on the building, report anything out of place or potentially hazardous, and take ownership of the facility and its occupants.
  • Monitor AED and Narcan stations to ensure they are stocked and ready for emergency use
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students with furniture rearrangement and office moves.
  • Move office furniture and bulky items safely to support office assignment and personnel relocations and events without damage to items or the facility.
  • Stock classrooms, conference rooms, and study rooms with whiteboard supplies including markers and erasers.
  • Replace batteries in door locks throughout the building and maintain records of changes.
  • Ensure proper furniture counts and organization in all classrooms, conference rooms, and study areas.
  • Check and secure doors during evenings or weekends when the building should be closed.
  • Coordinate with evening security guards to ensure building and occupant safety.
  • Monitor the facilities email, ticketing system, and phone to provide assistance as needed.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the facility specialist or facility director.
