
Student Success Coach, Pre-Health Sciences

Job Summary
The Student Success Coach for Pre-Health Sciences supports students from matriculation through transition into competitive Health Sciences programs and /or health career entry certificate programs. The Student Success Coach provides proactive, holistic, data-informed onboarding and advising Pre-Health Sciences students exploring, entering, or preparing to transition into Health Sciences certificates and competitive programs.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Onboarding, Career Exploration, & Programming
- Conducts proactive outreach to newly admitted Pre-Health students. Facilitates warm onboarding by assisting students in navigating placement, understanding “pre-major” expectations, and updating academic plan and program maps. Provides transparent program entry requirements and a personalized roadmap.
- Coordinates with Career Services to embed early career clarity (e.g., interest assessments, realistic job previews). Collaborates with Career Services to integrate occupation-focused conversations (labor market insights, salary expectations, program competitiveness).
- Supports students in identifying realistic and aspirational program pathways within Health Sciences. Contributes to community building and a sense of belonging for students in the Pre-Health Sciences major.
Academic/Career Advising & Coaching
- Provides early, proactive advising and coaching (academic, career, personal) support from matriculation through competitive program entrance. Guides students through degree and certificate exploration, academic planning, and competitive program readiness, aligning academic maps, prerequisites, and competitiveness criteria.
- Partners closely with faculty, Career Services, and Health Sciences program staff to create a seamless handoff into majors. Delivers proactive, data-supported check-ins throughout the semester, identifying barriers to persistence.
- Monitors progress toward competitive program admission requirements (GPA, prerequisites, HESI prep, health records, application timelines, etc.).
- Delivers and/or coordinates small group coaching focused on successful program entry, time management, study skills for A&P/Bio gateway courses, navigating setbacks and alternative pathways to healthcare careers, etc.
- Researches and maintains up-to-date knowledge of healthcare careers, workforce trends, employer needs, and industry skill demands to assist students in understanding and pursuing degree and certificate programs.
Transitional Support
- Coordinates handoff with program advisors and faculty. Works with Career Services to coordinate programming (resume development, career readiness workshops tailored to health care, early exposure to clinical/career experiences).
- Communicates application decisions and next steps clearly. Provide coaching and guidance for students not admitted to their first-choice program (rerouting, strengths-based alternatives). Assists students with transition to major, career, or transfer.
Cross-Functional Partnerships
- Builds partnerships and shared work with Onboarding, Pathways Advising, Career Services, Health Sciences Faculty & Program Directors, Academic and Student Affairs staff, and Enrollment Services. Works closely with the Health Records office to provide student support for accuracy, completion, and submission of required health records forms for course and program requirements.
- Collaborates with Career Services to design and deliver group advising workshops, presentations, and programming related to certificates, career exploration, résumé development, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
- Partners with faculty, Academic Advising, Career Services, and the Health Program Strategies team to coordinate student support efforts and ensure consistent, aligned guidance across departments. (Admission materials, websites, information Sessions).

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three (3) years of experience in advising
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
