Job Summary
The Supervisor – Social Work is responsible for overseeing daily clinical and operational activities of social work and therapeutic care staff across hospital programs serving individuals with psychiatric and substance use disorders. This role provides direct supervision for Therapeutic Care Providers, while ensuring high-quality patient care through effective assessment, treatment planning, care coordination, and discharge planning. The Supervisor serves as a clinical resource and leader, supporting evidence-based practices, regulatory compliance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and program performance. The role may also provide direct patient care in complex cases and support community outreach and referral relationships.
Essential Functions
- Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of Therapeutic Care Providers, including staffing, scheduling, and workload distribution.
- Provides clinical supervision, coaching, and performance management, including hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluations.
- Ensures completion and quality of biopsychosocial assessments, treatment plans, and discharge plans.
- Oversees intake, level of care determinations, registration, insurance verification, and pre-certification processes.
- Supports and monitors delivery of individual, group, and family therapy services.
- Serves as a clinical resource for complex cases, crisis intervention, and care coordination needs.
- Ensures integration and adherence to evidence-based practices across the team.
- Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nursing, case management, and external providers.
- Monitors departmental performance metrics, quality indicators, and documentation standards; implements improvements as needed.
- Coordinates referrals and maintains relationships with community resources and partner organizations.
- Supports regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Assists with program development, workflow optimization, and service line initiatives.
- Participates in community outreach, marketing, and public relations activities as appropriate.
- May provide direct patient care, including assessments and therapy, based on departmental needs.
- Travels to other sites or community locations as needed for assessments or program support.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Strong clinical expertise in behavioral health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
- Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and evidence-based practices
- Leadership and team management skills with ability to coach and develop staff
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to make sound clinical and operational decisions in high-pressure environments
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, documentation standards, and quality improvement practices

Qualifications
Education
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field with mental health specialization (Required)
Licenses/Certifications
- Other: Current professional licensure (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT) (Required)
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or within facility-specified time frame (Required)
- NCI -Non-violent Crisis Intervention or current program Within Facility-Specified time frame (Required)
Experience
- 3+ years clinical experience in behavioral health, including individual, group, and family therapy (Required) And
- Prior Experience discharge planning, case management, or community-based services (Required) And
- Prior Experience in leadership or supervision (Preferred)
